Maggie.

"Do you like him?" I asked Alma as I saw her curiously inspect the tiny baby I had in my arms. She gave him a look, fidgeting with her shirt.

"No" that earned a lot of laughs around us, mostly from my aunts and my cousin, the mother of the baby. She looked around, not understanding why we were all laughing at her innocent reply.

She turned around and walked away, not telling me why she was calling for me in the first place. We were at her birthday party, and my family was crowding my back yard along with some of Don's and a few family friends.

Don had passed the grill duty to one of my uncles, but was still standing next to him, making conversation with him and one of his friends from the taskforce. I saw Alma reach him and patting him on the thigh to call his attention, and as soon as I saw him bent down to her, I mentally rejoined the conversation.

"That sounds like a definitive 'no' on the brother department" my cousin said with a chuckle.

I had to admit that holding a baby again was heating up my baby fever, but I of course hadn't said a thing to anyone, with each passing day I was convincing myself that it was too soon to have another baby, that Alma was too little still, that Don was having trouble and he would certainly not want one now.

"Too bad it's not actually up to her" I said with a chuckle, not wanting to spark up suspicions about what was actually going on, with Raymond's trial and all.

Alma was definitely her own person now, and she was up and down, talking to people, eating, playing with her cousins, gushing with Don's mom. She didn't pay attention to me or Don for the rest of her birthday, even when we were all sitting down for lunch, she preferred to be sitting on Talia's lap, and Talia was happy to serve her and hold her.

"Why is this not weird for me to be doing?" Don said as he set me up a burger, given that I still had the baby on my arms. I smiled and my cheeks reddened a bit.

"It's you on Dad Mode, that's all" I gave him a smile as he finished "Alma hates the baby"

"There's a handful of things Alma doesn't hate"

I chuckled, holding a piece of burger and eating it.

"Oh, Don's got heart eyes" one of my aunts teased. I caught a glimpse of him just as he was taking his eyes off the baby. He grabbed my cheeks with one of his hands as I was trying to chew.

"I was looking at my wife, isn't she beautiful?" He said pinching them, I shook him off as I tried to not make a mess of myself and also not move as much to not disturb the sleeping baby.

"You were looking at the baby" she fought back.

"I was looking at the important things" he said, obviously now motioning at my breast. I gave him an eyeroll and slapped in playfully on the arm.

I was absolutely not complaining, buy Don had been very grabby these last few days. And I wasn't talking about just you know, a pinch in the cheek or anything, but like full ass grabs out of nowhere. Again, I wasn't complaining.

The baby began crying out of nowhere just as Alma was standing next to me again, about to ask for something. She looked down with a scowl on her face as if it was the most annoying thing in the world, and I returned it back to the mom before holding her up on my lap.
