Ressler.
I had an intention for the next morning after my return. I was going to wake up, run to the city to get one of Maggie's favorite cupcakes, set up a breakfast for her to have on bed, we would probably talk for a bit before we got started with our day.
That didn't happen. As soon as it set my head on the bed, I summed into the longest, deepest slumber I had had in months. I think it must've been all of the pent up stress finally catching up on me, it took one things figuring itself out for me to be able to have a full night of sleep.
The situation presented itself backwards, I was the one being gently shaken out of slumber, feeling the bed sink next to me as a the scent of coffee traveled to my nostrils.
I rubbed my eyes as I laid back on the bed, opening them to find Maggie sitting in the little space I'd left. I moved more to the middle of the bed and scooted back to a sitting position, laying my back on the backboard of the bed.
"Good morning" she said, then took a sip of her own cup, pulling her legs under her and sitting more comfortably.
"Good morning" I replied, taking the cup and glancing at the clock in the nightstand "it's late"
Maggie shrugged her shoulder, I took a sip of my coffee and sighed in content, I'd definitely missed my coffees.
"Depends, if you're going to work it is."
"No while my mom is here"
"I was talking to Robert, he said he's going back home after lunch, so we settled to have a barbecue, and your mom insisted on me calling my sister to have a family thing so-" she commented, giving her cup another sip as she finished "otherwise I would've let you sleep in"
Her eyes ran around my face, I'd forgotten that I had a few bruises around it.
"Do they hurt?" She moved a little closer, grabbing me by the jaw and moving my head to the side so she could see.
"Should've seen the other guy"
"Yeah, I saw the other guy" she replied with a scolding tone "you could've gotten in trouble, more than the one you got on. If James really wanted to screw you over he would've waved the 'attacked a federal agent' card. I'm assuming he didn't do it because Cooper came to bail you out"
I dodged her gaze, knowing well that she was telling the truth.
"Don" she called my attention after a few seconds of silence, she'd left the cup on the nightstand. "you apologized yesterday, and I think I owe you an apology as well"
I tried to interrupt her because I didn't think there was anything she should be apologizing for, but she continued before I could say anything.
"I should've listened to you when you warned me about James, and even though I still think you were exaggerating, I didn't..." She fumbled, looking to the side in thought "I don't know why I kept hanging out with him knowing that it was pissing you off, I guess I liked the company" she admitted, her hand absentmindedly rubbing on her arm "it was you I should have demanded more company from, so I'm sorry about that. I definitely haven't liked the outcome of it, I don't like seeing you hurt or get you in trouble"
