Chapter eighteen

"Come on, up, up, up!", Valentine commanded aggressively:" One more time! 5, 6, 7, 8!" Alec got to his starting position and started again. They have been doing the choreography for the past hour now- and it wasn't long. But for Valentine, it had to be perfect. "No, from the top, one more time!", Valentine interrupted. Alec gasped- this was really starting to get to him. Yesterday they spent the whole day at Jace and Clary's new place and helped. It was fun to spend some time around them again but it was exhausting. And since he carried that one heavier box, his knee has been acting strangely. It wasn't bad though so he decided not to tell Magnus- it would only worry him. "Okay this is useless, take five and then try the middle part.", Valentine sighed in annoyance. "I hate this.", Simon yawned, "the choreography is so basic! And he is making us do it a billion times." Maia nodded as she took a sip from her water bottle:" And now the partnering part starts- that's slaughter!" Raphael chuckled and nodded:" You don't even know half of it- My back has been so sore those past days, I don't even know how I am going to do this today." Alec also took a sip from his water bottle and decided not to comment on that. "Let's go, just individually work on the partnering session you learnt earlier. I want to get this over with in the next month!", Valentine commanded and Maia and Alec went to their usual place in the room. "We have practice with Julian and Emma later, don't forget to bring the Stretchbands to lunch.", Maia reminded Alec while trying to find her balance. "Oh, crap. It's for jumps, right?", Alec sighed. Maia nodded:" I think jumps is the thing where we are closest to getting some sort of results." "Are you here to dance with your bodies or your tongues?", Valentine snapped at them as he was walking by. Without them even having a chance to excuse themselves he already moved on to criticizing Maureen's and Raphael's lift. In fact, the only duo that didn't get any critique was Jonathan and Aline. As always.

"They really piss me off.", Maia ranted on their way to lunch break, "Valentine playing favourites isn't new but them literally rubbing it into our faces is just annoying. I mean Aline didn't even wear her hair up today, if that was me I would get one week of pointe shoe sewing as a punishment. And what does she get? A fucking compliment!" Alec sighed- it really was unfair. He felt like him and Jonathan put away their hatred for one another and just ignored each others existence. Meanwhile Maia and Aline were constantly competing for the female lead and became enemies over the few months of this year. "Why is she so perfect?", Maia sighed and started eating her lunch. Alec sighed and laid his arm on her:" Hey, she's not perfect. Not any more perfect that you are, at least." Maia rolled her eyes:" Come on, she is pretty damn perfect. I mean yes, you're gay and stuff but she has the most beautiful silky hair, light and clear skin, gorgeous, large ice blue eyes, full lips, always perfectly tweeted eyebrows and even though she is thinner than any girl I have ever seen she still manages to have some sort of boobs and but." Alec couldn't help but chuckle. What is so funny about this?", Maia ranted. Alec took her hand and looked her in the eyes: "She has the personality of an intoxicated goldfish, Maia. You need to stop comparing yourself, especially comparing the wrong things. Yes, you're exotic- your hair isn't silky, it's crazy and curly, your eyes aren't ice blue but wood green, yes you may not have her boobs bit you have hips she could only dream of and compared to her being skinny, you are muscular. Yes, Maia, you are different but that doesn't make you any less beautiful." She smiled weakly:" Thank you. Once in a while I really need to hear that." Alec grinned:" No problem. All of us get insecure."

"Okay, here are your Stretchbands, please do the one legged deep squads with them!", Alec commanded Julian and Emma. "Sorry, but can you demonstrate one more time?", Emma asked nicely but persistently. Alec scoffed and showed them the exercise one more time. All of the suddenly he felt that well known piercing pain in his right knee. Out of surprises he gasped. "Is everything okay?", Emma asked with that judgemental facial expression of hers. "Absolutely. Now do the squats. Twenty per side. Or, let's make it thirty. Go!", Alec commanded and leant against the wall of the tumbling room to text Maia:" Where are you??" She said she needed to get her Nutrition homework from her room but that couldn't be taking that long. Besides, he really needed her support here. After Emma and Julian finishing the warmup and Maia still not showing up, Alec had to continue showing the jumps to Maia and Julian. His knee felt really weird- it was in pain but nothing alike the pain he felt when he injured his right meniscus. He probably just overdid it with the boxes.
"So sorry I am late! There was kind of an emergency.", Maia exclaimed as she bursted into the room. "Okay, do the combo, this is none of your business.", Alex commanded and stumbled towards his friend. She looked pale. "What happened?", He asked. "It's Maureen.", Maia whispered, "she got upset for whatever reason, are an entire box of ice cream, then I came in and caught her and asked her what she was doing a free what she told me she had to go to the bathroom. When she wasn't coming out after ten minutes I decided to see if she was okay and I caught her sticking her hand up her throat, making her vomit the ice cream." Alec's eyes widened:" Wow, Ew, I mean is she okay?" Maia shrugged:" She had a full on mental breakdown afterwards and after I wasn't able to calm her down I brought her to Raphael's room so now he is with her." Alec swallowed- that wasn't good at all.
