"Maureen?", Maia asked as she entered their room. It has been a busy day but she felt like the worst was yet to come- she had to talk to Maureen again. It became obvious that her food-problem had to be fixed. The past weeks Maia tried to keep her head down and not to get involved too much in their business but now that Raphael was actually hurt she felt like it needed to be figured out. "Maureen?", she asked again as she got no response. It was weird because Maureens purple dancebag was lying in the hallway. "Hello?", she asked and entered the kitchen. She spent all day with Emma and Julian as Alec had to sort his own stuff out so it was already really late. Maia gasped- the kitchen was cluttered in pizza cartons, empty ice cream packages and crumbs of all kinds. "Maureen?", she yelled and looked in the bedroom- nobody. "Crap.", she cursed and ran to the bathroom. As she opened the door a disgusting smell made her choke. It took her seconds to see where it was coming from- the bathroom floor was covered in vomit. And in the middle of it all knelt Maureen, her head over the toilet bowl her hand up her throat. Everything inside of Maia froze up- she was completely in shock. She has never seen Maureen like that. As much as she tried, she couldn't help but stand there and stare, flabbergasted to the bone. Only Maureens gagging ripped her out of her trance. "Maureen!", she squeaked and knelt down next to her. "Leave me alone.", Maureen whispered with a rough voice and threw up again right away. "Maureen, stop!", Maia begged and only now she got to see her face- her entire face was smeared with mascara, her eyes were swollen from all the crying, her lips were dry and cracked, the vomit like acid burning her sensitive skin. "I need to get it out.", Maureen hissed through her teeth, pure madness in her eyes. "Get what out?", Maia asked, completely overwhelmed with the situation but didn't receive an answer. "I hurt him.", Maureen cried. "Hey, no,", Maia tried to calm her down but Maureen wouldn't let her. "I HURT HIM!", she screamed and stuck her hand up her throat again to bring herself to throw up. "Maureen listen to me!", Maia said and grabbed her arms. They were covered in cold sweat and goosebumps. "I'm a self absorbed monster!", Maureen cried with a rough, cracked voice and threw up again. "Maureen, don't say that!", Maia tried to help but seemed to only make it worse. "He told me to change but I put my happiness over his and this is the result!", Maureen cried, her breath shaking. "Stay right here!", Maia commanded and darted out of the room. Right now, the only person she could think of that way able to help Maureen was Raphael. "Raph!", she screamed and knocked at his door, "Raph! Get out!" Not even a minute later Raphael opened the door, his hair messy and his face swollen. "Sorry, I fell asleep.", he said in a rough voice. "Come with me!", Maia said and ran back to their room. "Wait, what is this about?", Raphael asked while trying to keep up. "Maureen!", Maia said and heard Raphael gasp:" Is she okay?" "No! So hurry the fuck up!", Maia yelled and noticed Raphael getting significantly faster. "Hey, hey, look who's here.", Maia said and pulled Raphael into the bathroom. Maureen looked up in shock. "Get him out!", she whispered and triggered her gag reflex again. Maia saw all the color fade from Raphael's face. She could only imagine how he must be feeling right now. The girl he loved, her face smudged with mascara, on the bathroom floor, broken, vomiting, sweaty. Done. "He shouldn't see me like this, get him out!", Maureen cried and Raphael walked towards her, completely flabbergasted, walking like a robot. He felt paralyzed but Maureen's heart pulled his to hers, like Magnets with a force the rest of his body couldn't resist. "When things get hard, don't push me away.", he whispered and knelt down next to her. "I'm so sorry.", she cried. "It's okay, don't worry about me.", he said and hugged her from the back. His warm chest felt like a comforting pillow on her cold sweaty back. "It's okay. Just calm down.", he said, "We'll figure something out." "Promise you won't leave me?", Maureen whispered through her curtain of tears covering her face. "Never.", Raphael whispered and wrapped her hands around her. Maia quietly left the room and took a few deep breaths. What a crazy day. For the millionth time she thanked god for being single. Raphael was comforting Maureen on the bathroom floor, Magnus and Alec were trying to sort out their problems in central park, Clary left NYABM for Jace and Simon walked around like a depressed puppy all day when Isabelle didn't text him back. Slowly, she picked up all the pizza cartons. What a mess all of this was, she realized. Their lives were messy and she somehow was stuck in the in-between. She had no drama of her own but somehow was involved in all the drama of her friend group and in her personal opinion, that was more than enough. She filled up a glass of water and brought it to the bathroom where Maureen thankfully took a sip. They were cute together, they really were. There was something about Raphael and Maureen that just absolutely made sense to Maia. She never believed in soulmates but what the two of them had looked somewhat like she would imagine soulmates to have. The way Maureens head perfectly fit into Raphael's neck's arch, the way his arms had the perfect length to hug her. "Thank you.", Maureen whispered to Maia. "Always.", she said and smiled weakly. I guess that is just who I am, she thought. The girl to clean up the mess.
