Taehyung and I go back downstairs. When we enter the kitchen, Taehyung is still holding my hand. And I hope he never lets it go. Even though it feels a bit weird, holding hands in front of my parents, they know we are together. Besides, we don't get to hold hands that often anymore.
We both take a seat at the kitchen table. My dad sits across from us and looks a bit judgy, but doesn't say anything. My mom stands next to the kitchen counter and turns around to us. "Would you like something to drink?" She asks us, "Grandma is asleep right now and she probably will be for the next half hour." I smile at her, "I would like some tea, but I can make it myself." My mom smiles, "No, I got it. Would you like something?" She looks at Taehyung, probably trying to remember his name. "Taehyung," I remind my mom. My mom smiles a bit embarrassed, "Right, Taehyung." "Some tea, if you don't mind," Taehyung says with a kind smile.
My mom nods and makes some tea. "What is your full name?" My dad asks Taehyung. Taehyung looks at him and smiles, "Kim Taehyung, sir." My dad looks a bit confused. "So your real name is Kim?" He asks. "No, dad, in Korea the names are in a different order. The last name comes first," I explain. "Yes, so my family name is Kim," Taehyung says. My dad still looks a bit confused, but he lets it go and looks at his phone.
My mom hands me and Taehyung a cup of tea. "Thank you," Taehyung says and he bows a little with his head. My dad sees it and laughs a little. "You don't have to bow, she is not the queen," he says with a bit of a hateful tone. I feel my nerves adding up and look at him. "Dad..." I warn him. "I'm just saying!" My dad says. "I'm sorry, it's just what I am taught," Taehyung explains. I put my hand on his shoulder. "No, don't apologize!" I tell him. My dad rolls his eyes and looks at his phone again.
My mom takes a seat as well and smiles kindly at Taehyung as he takes a sip of his tea. "It's good!" He smiles. "Thank you," My mom smiles. I see how she stares at him. I remember the comments my parents used to make about my love for BTS. My dad was not amused at all, but my mom tried to understand my love for them.
"Kim Ta-jung..." My dad says, "I see you're twenty-three." I get confused and look at him. "I am," Taehyung says, not correcting my dad's pronunciation. I look at my dad and see his screen reflect a little in his glasses. "Are you Googling him right now?" I ask my dad. I start to get angry, but I don't want to fight him. Not here, not in front of Taehyung. But my dad really needs to leave Taehyung alone.
"What? Am I not allowed to check who is sitting in my house right now?" My dad asks. I feel a hint of anger in his voice. That makes two of us. I have a feeling this won't end well. "You can find out who he is by just talking to him or to me!" I tell my dad. Taehyung puts his hand on my leg underneath the table to calm me, but I am not amused. My dad is being ridiculous!
"It says here that you are single," My dad points out. Taehyung nods, "That's right. We like to keep our relationships hidden from the media." I look at him and see a worried look on his face. I guess he is a little nervous about the whole attitude of my dad.
"Why don't we just put the phones away and just talk, like normal people?" My mom suggests. She must feel the tension as well. If there's something my mom hates, it is tension between me and my dad. My dad has a strong opinion and is not afraid to share it with the world. Besides, if anyone has a different opinion, he is not afraid to tell that person everything that's wrong with their opinion.
My dad puts his phone down. "Sure," he says, "Ta-jung, tell me. How many hidden relationships do you have?" My jaw drops. Is he really asking that right now?! My mom looks a little scared by my dads question, but she doesn't say anything about it. She just looks at me with a horrified look in her eyes.
"Dad!" I say, letting my anger take over. "What? Am I not allowed to ask him that either?" He asks, getting more and more angry as well. "No! You are not! How can you be this disrespectful?!" I yell. I am aware that Taehyung sits next to me and looks scared as I yell at my dad. "Am I not allowed to know how many so called girlfriends he has beside my daughter?" My dad asks me.
I stand up, "No! Stop asking such disrespectful questions!" My dad looks at me, clearly not amused by my anger. "What? I am supposed to treat him like a prince just because he is famous? Well, I am not!" My dad says, "I am not gonna be like you, who gives him everything he asks for just because he is famous!" My jaw drops again. "That's what you think of me? You really think I love him because he is famous?" I ask him, trying to stay as calm as possible.
My dad laughs hatefully, "Ali, if you're really in love with him, you are incredibly stupid. He clearly doesn't love you back. He just likes having a pretty girl around." I can't believe my ears. How can my dad be this disrespectful while Taehyung is literally sitting across from him?!
"Sir, I can assure you..." Taehyung stars, but my dad interrupts him right away. "Do everyone a favor and don't speak. Save that for your other girlfriends," my dad says. I can't take this any longer. "STOP IT!" I shout, "Stop being this disrespectful!" "He is not the king, Alyssa!" My dad shouts. "No, but neither are you!" I shout back, "I am not asking you to treat him like a king. I am asking you to show a little respect! Not because he is famous, but because he is a human being!"
My dad stays quiet and looks at me. "He has been nothing but nice to you nor to me! I don't love him because he is famous or because he has a lot of fans or money. I love him because of who he is as a person! I love him because he is the one who makes me feel loved. He makes me feel like I am worth loving. Because of him I am the person I am today. Because of him I feel happy and lucky. Because of him, I am able to love myself, something I have been struggling with for ages! So if you don't give him a chance or treat him with the respect, like he deserves, than you don't deserve to be near him at all!" I shout. I am aware that I am a little harsh, but I don't care anymore. My parents needed to hear this, with or without Taehyung's presence.
I look at Taehyung. "Let's get out of here," I say. Taehyung looks a little confused and worried by the discussion and maybe even by my explosion, but he nods and stands up. I look at my parents, who stay quiet. I decide to keep my mouth shut before I start to scream even more. I grab Taehyung's hand and go outside.
Once the door closes behind us, I sigh deeply. I take a few deep breaths and turn around to Taehyung. "I am so sorry you had to see that," I tell him. Taehyung smiles wide, comes closer to me, puts his hands on my hips and kisses me. I immediately feel better and kiss him back. I put my hands in his neck and hold him close to me.
When we let go, I look at him and see a beautiful smile. "I love you, so much," he says. I smile wide and feel my cheeks blush. "I love you too, but you already know that," I smile. Taehyung smiles wide and kisses my lips once again. "I do," he smiles. Before he lets go of me, he quickly puts a kiss on my nose. I grab his hand. "I am so sorry for everything he said..." I tell him. Taehyung smiles, "It's okay. It wasn't the first time I heard that." I feel worried and a little scared. "Really?" I ask. Taehyung nods, "Yes, but it doesn't matter." I shake my head, "It does matter! It's awful that you hear that kind of bullshit more than once, especially if it comes from my dad."
Taehyung puts his arm around my shoulders. "Yes, it sucks," he says, "let's forget about it and leave it behind us." I smile wide and kiss his cheek. "Yes," I say, "Let me show you around." Taehyung smiles wide. He lets go of me as we walk around. Luckily, the town is really small, so I can show him everything by foot. I show him everything: my old school, the small park, the old church, Yana's old house, the supermarket and even the hospital. I tell him about every childhood memory I can think of. Taehyung listens and looks around with a big smile on his face. I bet it is very different from the town he grew up in.
When we take a seat in the park, I look at my phone. I see my mom sent me a text.
Mom: Hey honey, your grandma called, she is awake and would love to see you. Dad and I will go see her tomorrow. Love, mom
I smile. It doesn't surprise me that she doesn't say anything about the fight I just had with dad. But I am glad she is not taking his side. I bet she even made sure Taehyung and I would have some time alone with my grandma, so we wouldn't continue our fight in front of her.
I look at Taehyung. "My grandma is awake," I tell him with a smile. Taehyung smiles wide. "Let's go see her then!" He says. We both stand up and go to my grandma's house. But as we get closer, I start to worry more and more. What if my grandma doesn't like him either? What if she reacts the same way my dad just did? I love Taehyung and I can't see how anyone would ever hate him, but clearly my dad sees a lot of reasons to. I don't want my grandma to dislike him either. I mean, she never really hated someone. She never judged anyone and is always very loving. I hope she is the same towards Taehyung.
