Part Forty-Eight 사십팔

"We've told you anything about us, but I am actually curious about you," Taehyung smiles, "How did you and your husband meet?"

Taehyung and I sit in the living room next to my grandma's bed. We just told my grandma about the upcoming tour of BTS and my new job. My grandma was super curious about it all and asked a lot of questions, which we answered happily.

My grandma smiles wide at Taehyung's question, "That's a great story!" "Get ready for it," I tell Taehyung with a smile. He laughs, "Well, I can't wait!"

"Great, because it is a hell of a ride," My grandma laughs, "I first met Henry - my husband - at a party. It was the birthday of my - back then - boyfriend. We didn't know each other, but both really liked to drink. So when we first met, we were really, really drunk." I laugh and look at Taehyung. "But you still had a boyfriend back then?" He asks her.

"Yes, it was my boyfriend's birthday party," My grandma laughs, "But that didn't stop us..." I start to laugh, "Oh god, please tell me you didn't!" My grandma smiles proudly, "Oh yes, I did! We sneaked into the bathroom of the house and I kissed him..." Taehyung laughs, "You just kissed?" My grandma laughs, "Yes, we just kissed. But I can tell you, it was not on my boyfriend's wish list. But it sure was something on my wish list!" She starts to laugh and Taehyung joins her.

I look at my grandma who laughs with Taehyung. I laugh a little as well, but I mostly look at my grandma. I can't believe this will be the last time I will see her laugh... This will probably be the last story she will ever tell me... Tears roll down my face. I want to see her laugh more, I want to hear a thousand more of her stories and I want to make many, many more memories...

My grandma looks at me and stops laughing. She grabs my hand. "Don't cry, darling," she says. I wipe the tears off my face, but they keep coming. "I can't help it," I tell her, "I don't want you to leave me. I know you said you will always be with me, but I will not be able to see you or hear you or feel you..." I see tears in my grandma's eyes. "I know, darling... But we can't do anything about it," she says, "We just have to accept this." "What if I can't? What if I can't accept the fact that soon you won't be a part of my life anymore?" I ask.

I burst out in tears. I love my grandma so much. She makes the world a better place and she made me a better person. I can't see how I will keep doing what I do without her. Even though I didn't see her that often, I had the chance to see her. If I wanted to, I could go home and see her. But not anymore... In a few days or weeks, she will be in heaven and I will never be able to hear her words of wisdom anymore...

My grandma opens her arms for me. I take a seat on her bed next to her and wrap my arms around her. I hold her tight and let my tears roll down my face without trying to stop them. My grandma hugs me back and puts her head on my shoulder.

"Listen to me, Alyssa," she says, "You are a strong, independent woman. You don't need me to live your best life. You have people around you that care about you and love you. I already told you everything you need to know. From now on, you can do this by yourself." I let her go and look at her. I can barely see her because of all the tears in my eyes.

"But I want you in my life," I tell her. My grandma smiles, dropping a few tears herself. "I know, darling, but we can't change that. Let's look at the moments we had and not at the moments we didn't have," she says. I nod and wipe away some tears. "Promise me you will remember me with a smile and not with a tear," she says. I laugh a little, "I promise."

She puts her hands on my cheeks and wipes away the tears with her thumbs. "I love you, darling. I am so proud of you, everything you've done and everything that you are," she says, "Remember that." I nod, "I will, thank you."
