It's been almost two weeks since Christmas now, and I haven't taken the necklace off once. I wore it to sleep, during the day, and didn't even take it off to shower.
At first, I was scared the silver would tarnish, leaving the ring and the chain it was dangling from looking dull. But I remembered pretty quickly that the Malfoy's had money, and surely they would buy their son only the best.
Just to make sure, though, I made George cast a spell to protect the metal and keep it in its original form.
I would've preferred doing it myself. I never really trusted the twins when it came to magic; pranking was too much of a hobby of theirs to do so.
But, seeing as I wasn't allowed to use magic outside of Hogwarts grounds yet, George had to do. And, surprisingly, Draco's gift still looked as beautiful as it did before.
Though, if he knew I let a Weasley hex his precious ring, he would probably Avada Kedavra me on the spot.
As much as I loved wearing it, I tried to hide the necklace as best as I could, not really feeling like explaining myself to Harry, Ron or the rest of his family on why exactly Draco had given me his ring.
Especially when I didn't even know why myself.
And up until now, I did a splendid job with it. Wearing only big hoodies and turtlenecks to hide the accessory underneath, while begging Fred and George not to say a word about it.
And that's exactly where it all went wrong now. Now that we were only a day away from going back to Hogwarts. Now they had to break.
I glared at them as they asked me for the third time in the last twenty minutes why I was wearing such warm clothes while sitting in front of the fireplace. Admittedly, it was becoming rather hot; Harry, Ginny and I huddled on one single couch, way too close together. I was regretting putting the T-shirt on underneath the jumper.
The twins were sitting in two identical armchairs opposite of us, while Ron had made himself comfortable on the floor.
"Seriously, Y/n, there's no need to wear such a thick jumper in the warmest place of the whole house," Fred teased, and I groaned.
"What is it with you and Y/n clothes today?" Ginny asked, confused, her gaze wandering from her brothers towards me, her brown eyes scanning me once. "Though, you do look a bit hot." She took the back of her hand to lay it on my forehead, pulling away almost as soon as she touched it. "Merlin, are you sure you're not getting a fever?" She asked, concerned.
I could see Fred and George had a hard time keeping it together; looking like they would explode with laughter any minute now.
"I feel completely fine," I grumbled, leaning further into the couch in hopes the topic of conversation would magically change.
"Even I'm sweating, there's no way you're not," Ron chimed in, and I glared at him. "What? I'm just saying," He sighed. He was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt, eying me suspiciously.
"Merlin, Y/n, just take the damn jumper off so we can move on," Harry groaned, clearly just as annoyed we were still talking about this as I was. Though, for different reasons.
I sighed, looking around the room once, realising every single pair of eyes was on me. Fred and George both giving me a wink nobody else saw.
It would be weird if I didn't take it off now, wouldn't it?
I sighed once more before grabbing the hem of the jumper, pulling it over my head. "You're all proper weirdos for this," I grumbled while I was straightening out the white shirt I wore underneath.
