Back home, happy holidays, and an upcoming new year! Hope you're all as excited as I am for seeing these guys finally get to start interacting with the plot, after a year (in chapters) of sitting on the side more or less.

(A day earlier)

Mystic looked around the circle assembled on the sand, the backdrop of sky that was previously lit by hundreds of bright colors darkening over the rough sea. The waves slammed down on the shore and the wind blew chilly air, almost powerful enough to put out the bonfire between the five of them.

Taiyo was rubbing his hands together over the fire, shivering from the cold, but his face was solemn. Around him stood his team of Pokemon, the highlight of which being Heatran. A Chandelure hovered over his back, while a Gigalith sat beside him, and a Kommo-o with crossed arms had a Talonflame perched on its shoulder. Unlike their trainer, who was oblivious to the strange stares he was getting, they regarded the Island Guardians with apprehension.

The young teenager was on Mystic's left, while Shane was on the right, rubbing his chin as he glanced between the flames and the stranger. Kaito and Calypso were on the other side of the bonfire, the former's intense ocean-colored stare nearly burning a hole in Taiyo's face and the latter's head cocked with a curious look in her own eyes.

The Volcarona boy blew on his hands again, the setting sun and rapidly-dropping temperatures already getting to him as his wings weakly fluttered inside his jacket. He finally looked up, meeting the others' eyes. "What? It's cold... Mystic, I know you dragged me out here for something important, but can we get on with it, please?"

"What is a human doing here?" Kaito hissed to the Poni Guardian. "And with Heatran, no less..."

"Be careful how you speak to my trainer, Bulu," the legendary boomed. "He may not look like much at first, but the Son of the Sun isn't a joke."

The dark-skinned Ula'Ula Guardian dipped his head. "My apologies, Heatran. Mystic?"

"Right. Everyone, this is Taiyo. Taiyo, these are the other Island Guardians."

He looked up from the bonfire again, deep blue eyes wider than they were before for a moment. "That explains all the weird auras, then. I'm used to the constant Misty Terrain, but the sparks in the air, power in the ground, and weird mind fog are new to me. Nice to meet you all, then."

"Likewise," Kaito replied, though he was still certainly confused.

"Heya!" Calypso waved, hopping up from her seat to vault over Heatran's back and rub the side of his face. "Long time no see, Heatran!" She then gave each of Taiyo's Pokemon a smile and a pat, though Kommo-o suddenly seemed ready to faint when the partial Fairy-Type touched him. She hopped back over to the bonfire, but walked a circle around Taiyo before sitting back in her seat. "Son of the Sun, huh? No wonder he's so cold! It's night!"

Shane reached out to shake Taiyo's hand, though the white- and red-haired boy nearly recoiled from the Electric-Type's shocking handshake. "A friend of m'lady's is a friend of mine, as long as you don't try pulling anything funny. Speaking of m'lady, what's up with the sudden meeting."
