Immediately, Courtney reached down to touch her Mega Ring. "Camerupt, let's do it! Mega Evolve!"

The Fire- and Ground-Type was surrounded in a burst of bright, colored light, which struck a nostalgic chord within Luna. "You finally got a Key Stone for your own, huh?" Before she moved on from Team Magma, Courtney had done the same as many other grunts- stealing their Key Stones to use. But from the truly proud look in her red eyes, Luna could tell she earned this one all on her own.

"You know it, girl! Stealing is so last decade! We're true to our hearts now!" Courtney beamed. "Now, Camerupt, use Rock Slide! Ninetales, Fire Spin!"

"Mid, cover Lunalox with Protect! Lunalox, aim toward Ninetales and use Rock Throw!" Luna commanded quickly, glad to see her shiny Umbreon sister leap with perfect accuracy and precision to cover Lunalox as the lunar canid sent a barrage of rocks in Ninetales' direction.

They rocks shot right through the approaching flames, blowing most of them out. Ninetales managed to dodge most of them in time, but a few rocks still skimmed her.

"Good," praised Luna, "now! Before they have time to recover, both of you use Dark Pulse!"

Despite the quick command and lightning-speed reactions Luna had trained her Pokemon with, Courtney wasn't nearly ready to give up after the first few attacks. "Camerupt, use Eruption! Flamethrower from you, Ninetales! Mix those fiery attacks together to protect yourselves!"

The two discs colored like tar hit the wall of erupting lava and flames at once, the magma tracing back to Courtney's past calling. Even if she was no longer a member of the now-disbanded gang set on awakening Groudon, that didn't mean she had forgotten the good memories with those there, or the rush she got when handling the powerful yet dangerous heat.

Both moves met with an explosion of power, but at least the bubbling lava didn't hit anyone. The bright flash of light it created like a fountain and a beacon beam, however, did not go unnoticed despite the girls' distance between them and the rest of the class, may of them turning their heads to see the battle.

This attention only fueled Luna's determination to win. No matter her status, she was still a competent battler, and Lunalox seemed to need the reassurance with her recent unhappy mood. So, it wasn't surprising she was already creating some outline to a strategy.

"Lunalox, bear with me here. Use Powder Snow to freeze the battlefield!"

Courtney seemed to giggle at this. "You forget who you're fighting? Ice is nothing to a duo of Fire-Types!" As the ground turned from somewhat-cracked dust dotted in patches of moss to a field of slippery, frozen plane, she beamed at her Pokemon. "Use Fire Spin, Ninetales, and clear the way for us if you please!"

Midnight locked her yellow eyes with Luna's own deep blue ones, and the confusion died on the fox-like Pokemon's face as a spark of unspoken understanding came between them. The two were like twins since they met as toddlers, and shared a deeper connection than many other trainers, as they often demonstrated. Midnight nodded solemnly in wordless trust.

Whatever was coming next, she'd step in without hesitation.

Across the battlefield, Ninetales breathed a plume of flame that began to swirl around in front of her, melting the ice. Luna waited until it began to form small puddles, and as soon as Ninetales stepped forward into one-!

"Now!"

Midnight immediately used Psychic to lift the surrounding water and drop it on Ninetales, who certainly didn't appreciate the super-effective gesture. The Fire-Type fluffed out its fur with a snarl. "Augh, leave it to Luna to use our strengths against us! Enough of this, Ninetales! Hyper Beam! Camerupt, use Earthquake!"

Instead of fearing the attack, Luna put her hands together with a smile, making a small clap sound. "Perfect, phase two already!"

As the ground began to shake, Lunalox and Luna both jumped up and hovered with the help of their wings, while Midnight used Quick Attack to hop between the sections of ground that were beginning to crack apart. The remaining ice began splintering at the sheer force of the attack, breaking apart in harsh, jagged lines.

"And..." The Hyper Beam finally shot forward from in front of Ninetales. "Now, sis!"

Time appeared to slow down as Midnight Synchro-Mega evolved, and the Z-Crystal on Luna's Z-Ring began to glow. She did the Dark-Type pose in midair and the oblivious darkness began to shroud Midnight's galactic form. The Hyper Beam got closer and closer, and it looked like it was going to hit, but then...

The blue ring reminiscent of Midnight's shiny-colored patterns signaling a Blue Ring Beatdown appeared, but it was a little different than before. It was more navy blue, as if a regular Black Hole Eclipse was coming. And that it did.

Instantly, the Hyper Beam vaporized as it went through the ring, as if sucked up entirely by the Black Hole. But that wasn't it. It seemed to temporarily suck up all the light around, darkening everything but the pale blue glow, which then rushed forward with the shroud of Midnight's disguise. Even Lunalox seemed exhilarated as the Umbreon dropped all the force of power at once, hardly noticing that Luna had been shifted to her Pokemon form with the Mega/Synchro/Z-Move trinity active.

Ninetales was paralyzed by the sheer effort it took to use Hyper Beam, leaving it helpless to fall prey to the Beatdown Eclipse, which knocked it out fairly quickly. Midnight had the decency to stop near the end so the Fire-Type wouldn't have lasting injuries and Courtney ran over with her Pokeball to absorb Ninetales in a red light.

She turned to her friend, jaw somewhat open at the obscenity of it all, but that didn't last long. Her easy smile returned as she watched her friend shift back to normal, though Midnight's Synchro-Mega form remained. The Umbreon looked worn out, but wasn't nearly ready to give up.

"It's been a while since the last time I battled like this... My blood is rushing and my heart is pounding... Let's go all out until the very end!"
