At Luna's vacation home, Raven's golden eyes suddenly jerked open. She felt a presence she knew and knew well, but it wasn't the same as when it was contained inside her. Now it felt almost alive again, as though finally regaining a portion of who it was.

Who she was, and Raven began to run towards that feeling, breathless and terrified and hopeful all at once.

Both Lunalox and Luna were surrounded by a large sum of light, practically shining like two identical, tiny suns. Luna felt through her shared bond with her Pokemon that Lunalox was gaining more and more power as the light grew stronger and brighter.

(Luna was the name of the moon; the celestial body that reflected the light of the sun and sent it down to Earth to bring a shimmering beam of hope in the night when everything else had drowned in the darkness.)

Her eyes were cracked open slightly, squinting against the pure, harsh white that was emanating from Lunalox's form. A silvery outline of a fluffy shape with kind eyes managed to glow even brighter for a moment, smiling and holding out a paw toward Luna's confused expression before melting away as the Lustrous Lunar Lightstorm finally shot away and toward Tapu Koko.

The Island Guardian was tucked into his shell tightly, but as the explosion of energy so raw came upon it Luna knew there would be no getting out of this one conscious. The last thing she (as well as Lunalox, and Tapu Koko) saw was the silvery wraith, still flickering in and out of being, before shutting her eyes in an expression of blissful content.

Raven had never run so fast, bounding up the hill to the Pokemon School faster than she thought her legs could carry her. As soon as she made it over the ridge and leapt past the gates, she sprinted toward the group that was gathered and the viciously bright light that was growing brighter by the minute.

The white Espeon grit her teeth as she continued forward, dodging between people until she jumped out onto the battlefield, hardly able to see. She could just about make out Lunalox and Luna standing side by side, though they looked identical up to the bracelet on the left one's paw- Luna.

On the opposite side of the battlefield was Tapu Koko, shut inside his shell and hovering above the ground. Like even an Island Guardian can survive as strong an attack as... whatever this is... Her aura-sensing ability told her it was an insanely powerful Z-Move, but there was another aura that was beginning to overpower her senses.

She glanced at Lunalox again, the light so bright she could only see her outline. That is, until the outline grew silver and stood up, wings disintegrating and fur growing softer and fluffier. The shape stood and took a step away from Lunalox's glowing body, turning to face Raven.

"Hello, my sweet, sweet daughter," it murmured.

A tear fell from the golden eyes of the Espeon as Lunalox sent its attack at Tapu Koko, and the light spread until, for a moment, everything was white. Raven's eyes shut tightly.

When it finally died down, all three figures on the battlefield were unconscious, the crowd was still recovering in a silent sense of awe, and everything clicked into place. She glanced at Lunalox to see that silver outline embracing her, dormant but present.

She felt the jewel on her forehead as if she didn't believe what she saw before sinking to sit on the ground. It was surreal; she didn't hear the sounds of the crowd finally speaking up, or Luna;s classmates running to pick her up, or of Lillie handing a revive to Ash who ran over to put it in Tapu Koko's mouth.

Her mother's spirit ceased to move on, having died too young; she wanted, needed, to protect her children, even in death. The oldest, a female Eevee named Raven, heard the calling of her mother's spirit as she felt the Eevee's limp body in her paws, still warm, and listened to the whispers.

"Dear... I'm so sorry it had to end this way..."

"NO! Mother, please don't leave us, I'll do anything...! Don't leave me..."

The spirit of the mother Eevee held her eldest daughter close. "I cannot survive without a body, darling, and I couldn't ask anyone to-"

"I'll do it! I'll do it, so long as you'll be here with me, and I'll find a way to bring you back! I promise, I swear!"

The mother Eevee was silent for a moment, staring at the desperate hazel of the young one's eyes, red and full of tears. She reached down with her paw, hardly a silver outline anymore as she was tugged toward the stars. "...Okay, I'll try, I'll try to hold on, my darling... I'm so sorry you're left with this burden..."

Raven shut her eyes and let calm wash over her, felt her body changing. For a moment it was turning pink, as her body grew out and her fur stayed short and sleek, but as her tail kinked-!

Suddenly there was pain, white-hot and all-consuming- she dropped to the ground and wailed in pain but kept fighting, felt the orb on her forehead physically burn with the strength of a thousand suns but she fought.

When she finally opened her eyes, her body was white, pure as could be. She'd later find out her eyes were golden, as was the gem in her forehead, but that wasn't all it was. No, that orb adorning her face was sacred, and every time she saw it or even felt it, she could hear the echoing cry, the last shaky breath her mother had let out before she died, and that spirit image of silver paws and kind eyes reminded her why she fought so hard.

That day she awoke to find that orb empty and lifeless she felt like she lost a part of herself, but now she stared at the limp, canid body of what had once been a young, unidentified hatchling, and saw that same silvery wisp, that trace of spiritual life still hanging on, still whispering to her.

"I am here, my darling. I'm always here. I'm still coming back..."

(Storing up power from her beautiful daughters and sons, awaiting the day she could return to them again, ever-patient as the threads of fate worked to weave her back into the narrative she left behind.)
