"Blue skies and a beautiful day! Perfect for our celebration of a Melemele Island tradition: the Pokemon Pancake Race!" The race overseer exclaimed through her head microphone. She was standing atop her Pokemon, a Magnezone, to broadcast the event. "And we at Alola TV will be proudly broadcasting the entire exciting race to all the Alola Islands live!"

At the starting line was also where the viewers were seated, including Professor Kukui, Rockruff, Luna and Cloudy's mom, the Eeveelution siblings minus Midnight, and Lillie with her egg. A large TV screen was set up, displaying the camera feed.

"Look at the diagram on your screen. You can see this year's course! All our human competitors must clear obstacles, such as steep inclines, until they finally join their Pokemon partners! They must pull their partners in a wagon until they get to their next checkpoint. And after that? The leg of the competition with Pokemon only! If any Pokemon uses an attack to hinder their opponents, then that Pokemon will be immediately disqualified," she explained, telling everyone the basic rules.

The racers' Pokemon were already stationed at the first checkpoint, so Luna couldn't offer Midnight any reassurance. She knew the other pairs, though: Cloudy and her Absol, Danger, as well as Ash and Pikachu, Nina and Alolan Raichu, Lana and Popplio, Mallow and Bounsweet, Kiawe and Turtonator, Jessie and Mimikyu, James and a Bewear that looked suspiciously fake, Sophocles and Togedemaru, Principal Oak and his Komala, and many other strangers with their partners.

"We've got a lot of competitors gathering at the starting line as the excitement mounts!" The announcer lady exclaimed, showing them all lined up on her camera feed.

Professor Kukui waved to them. "Have a great time out there!" Rockruff barked in agreement.

"Good luck to all of you!" Lillie exclaimed.

"Hey, thanks!" Ash replied, jogging in place to warm up.

"Enjoy watching us!" Luna added, stretching. She and her siblings had already spent tons of their free time doing physical fitness, with all their runs, but they had upped it even more for the race.

Kiawe looked over to them. "You'll be proud!"

"We wanna hear you out there!" Mallow exclaimed, mostly to Lillie.

"Definitely!" Cloudy added.

Lillie closed her eyes as she smiled. "Okay!" Just then, Luna noticed her egg glowed for a few seconds. She looked around, but everyone else had turned to look ahead.

Pokemon eggs only glow like that when they're really really close to hatching...! If Lillie's egg is going to hatch while we're racing, scratch that, if all three eggs hatch while we're racing, someone is getting a Thunder to the head!

Sighing, she looked forward. "And here's Nina, last year's winner! Do you think you'll be making it two wins in a row?" The Alola TV announcer asked the deep pink-haired young lady, getting close to the ground on her Magnezone.
