Something had been off in the base. The high-ranked Rocket members kept shooting each other paranoid glances, taking far more calls than usual, and Moon was in a state bordering on panic, even when she tried not to let it show. Giovanni hadn't come down all that day, which was good, but also concerning.
Both hope and fear were high in the prisoners. It could be a chance to escape, to return home, to be free... Or it could mean separation, getting shipped off or sold or bred, maybe even forced to fight one another to the death.
The doors were thrown open early for lunch, and even though the guards didn't seem put off by it, Luna had long since memorized the routine. She had nothing better to focus on anymore, barely living. The group that brought food was always the same, a group of four mid-tier grunts in identical uniforms, wearing scowls. They often taunted the prisoners or threw the food and let it spill.
This time, there were five grunts, and they looked much different. Even as they routinely set down the food, there was something strange about them. Their clothing was different. And it almost felt as if some of them were watching her.
When the guard came bursting in with the normal group, and suddenly the restraints and cell doors were all shut down, the new grunts were replaced by familiar figures, and a shout that could only be her mother's rang around the room, Luna was hit by a surge of adrenaline.
She dropped to the ground with a thud, hardly able to pick her shaking body off the ground, but as she slowly lifted her head and arms, she could move again. Even if her body was in ruins, scarred and bruised and left incredibly weakened, she could feel so much energy and life spewing up again.
The other prisoners appeared to be in the same boat, all shocked as they realized they were free. But Rocket grunts were going to be surging in to restrain them, and everyone was far too weak to fight aside form their saviors.
Said group contained Ash and Pikachu, Kiawe and Turtonator, Officer Jenny with Arcanine, a pink-haired girl with striking blue eyes, Luna's shiny Greninja Nightshade, and none other than Luna's mother Aurora, though a second strange, ethereal being with two pairs of wings was seemingly attached to her back, eyes glowing and glimmering, basked in silver and gold light, nine tails fluffed out like a shield around her, and even a halo above the creature's head. And when she turned to look at Luna, it was like she was two again, being discovered by those Eevees and taken in.
I...
"MOM! NIGHT! ASH! KIAWE!" Her voice cracked and cut out at the suddenness and volume, but she didn't care, not as she clawed her way toward them. "Y'came."
"I promised I would never, ever abandon you, my dears." Evangeline's motherly voice rang out, reaching every Pokemon, especially her children. "And now that I'm back, I'll never let anyone hurt you again."
