Luna and her half-brother Ash raced back to the classroom, with Midnight and Pikachu right behind them. The medium-length brown-haired girl beat him by a few seconds, flying through the doorway and sliding to a stop before turning around to watch him come in behind her. However, instead of coming to a graceful stop, he collided with a desk, flailing his arms as he fell over.

"Ash, are you okay? Silly big brother, always crashing into things!" Luna chided as she and Pikachu, who had burst in the door a moment later and rushed over to help his trainer, pulled Ash up. His eyes moved around sporadically before they focused on her.

"Heh, whoops. Probably should watch where I'm going next time," he chuckled, shaking the dizziness from his vision. As Luna let go of him and looked around, she realized Kukui and the other students were staring at them.

Standing up straight with her cheeks a light pink, she looked to the Professor. "Sorry for bursting in like that. I'm allowed to stay here, though, and my other Pokemon are going to come, too!"

"That sounds great, Luna, like the cause to Celebrate! Why don't you introduce yourself, then you and Ash can grab a seat so we can start our lesson?" He responded, gesturing a pair of empty seats. Grinning, Luna stepped up in front of the class.

"Hello everyone! My name is Luna Oak-Ketchum Fox, I'm sixteen years old, and my hometown is Pallet Town in the Kanto region! As you might know, Ash is my older half-brother: our dad had his older brother Red and him with Ash's mom, Miss Delia, before marrying my mom and having me and my little sister, Cloudy! Plus, Principal Oak and Professor Oak are my third cousin twice removed and grandfather respectively thanks to my mom being the professor's daughter! This is my partner Pokemon, Midnight: she's a shiny Umbreon, one of the evolutions of Eevee!" She introduced happily.

The students were in awe of her Pokemon, staring in wonder at her blue-ringed fur and yellow eyes. Midnight seemed to be loving the attention. Suddenly, Kiawe's eyes darted back up to her, studying her face. "Wait... The Luna Oak-Ketchum Fox!?! As in the Pokemon League champion of six regions!?!"

The brunette flashed him a smile. "That's me alright!" Everyone else had shifted their attention back to her, eyes wider than saucers. However, she waved her hands. "Please, don't treat me like a celebrity, I came to Alola to forget all that and relax! I don't know many of your names, though, and I'd love to get to know everyone since I'll be staying!" Luna added, looking around at the students.

Mallow smiled, pointing around the room. "The blue-haired girl is Lana, and her Pokemon partner Popplio, the serious dark-skinned boy over there is Kiawe, this boy here is Sophocles with his Togedemaru, and my blonde friend here is Lillie! Oh, and this is Bounsweet!"

"Hey, it's so great to meet you all!" Luna then waved to Midnight and they took a seat at their new desk, Kukui looking on, amused.

"Alright, since Luna is new to the Alola region, why don't we Aeroblast her away with today's lesson on Alolan customs and specialties?" He prompted, reaching for a piece of chalk. "Here in Alola, things are pretty different and traditional compared to other regions. We have all kinds of unique foods, special Alolan forms of Pokemon, and of course, Z-moves."

As he was talking, he drew a few quick sketches of pastries Luna had never seen before, some Pokemon she recognized, but with some very different features, and then a bracelet with a small diamond shape. "Alolan forms? Z-moves? What are those?" She asked, pointing to the drawings.

"Oh! I know this! Alolan forms are types of Pokemon found in other regions that have adapted to Alola's climate, therefore having different types, looks, and moves than their Kanto counterparts. Z-moves are special moves that trial-goers can use if the bond with their Pokemon is strong enough!" Lillie answered while raising her hand. When she realized everyone was looking at her, she slumped down with flushed cheeks, but Luna was fascinated all the same.

"That sounds amazing! How do you participate in these trials?"

"There are special people called trial captains and kahunas that host trials and grand trials, respectively. Every island in Alola has at least one trial captain, and one kahuna. Each specializes in a certain type like gym leaders back home, but you also have to complete a task to gain their type Z-Crystal," Ash explained, showing off his Z-Ring.

Kukui smiled at his students' knowledge. "Very good, Lillie and Ash. Here in Alola, we've got our own style of doing things, and people seem to Dig it. Who can name one Alola form as an example?" Lana timidly raised her hand, then Kukui called on her. "Lana, care to answer?"

"N-normally, Rattata and Raticate are Normal-types, but in Alola, they're Normal- and Dark-Type. Their cheeks are much larger, and they have higher defensive stats than their Kanto variants. Another is Exeggutor, who flourish in Alola's sunlight. Their necks are very tall, and instead of being Grass- and Psychic-type, they are Grass- and Dragon-type," she said quietly.

"Lana's right. I remember when Ash first started school here and the Principal was giving a lesson on Alolan Exeggutor. He angered one of its heads and got knocked down the ladder!" Mallow giggled.

Luna laughed, imaging her half-brother in such a situation. "Sounds like him alright! These Alolan variant Pokemon sound fascinating!"

"I'm glad you like it here. Now, who wants to explain Z-moves?" Kukui moved on, scanning the room for raised hands. Unsurprisingly, Kiawe raised his hand, which also boasted a Z-ring.

"When a trainer and their Pokemon have a strong bond between their souls and the corresponding crystal as one of their moves, they can perform a short sacred dance together and fire off a powerful move. For example, I have the Firium Z, so when my Turtonator and I use our Z-move, it's Inferno Overdrive. Z-moves can be used once per battle, and you usually have to have proved yourself worthy in the correct trial to use one."

"Wow! That sounds really cool! Hang on, is Turtonator an Alolan Pokemon? I've never heard of one before!"

"Yep. It's a Fire- and Dragon-Type, and a good pal of mine. In fact, Turtonator, come on out!" Kiawe exclaimed, pulling out a Pokeball and tossing it out to reveal a red and yellow shelled Pokemon. It gave Luna a gruff nod as it stood beside his trainer.

I think I'm going to really enjoy Alola!
