If he could have lived his entire life with his nose buried in a book, he would have been perfectly happy. But alas, he lived in a time of great conflict and books burn pretty well, so he saw the tiny library he had acquired go up in flames right before his eyes.

Only one book had he been able to save, and to his dismay he noticed it was the one with the delicately decorated cover he had bought from a merchant just a week ago, only to find that it was empty.

Frustrated by this latest misfortune, he tossed the book angrily, and it fell open on a random empty page towards the middle.

Then, the unthinkable happened: words started to be scribbled upon the page before his very eyes.

"Read me," it said, "read me if you want to avenge your books."

A/N: I figured that, if books could talk (or rather, write) to us, of course they'd have vigilantes looking for revenge as well.
