"Do you want a slice of the cake, sweetheart?"
To an outsider, this must have sounded like such an innocent question. Just a young woman offering a young man a bite to eat.
And yet, he thought, this time it meant so much more.
"I... I can't. I'm sorry." The words broke his heart as they left his lips. He could see they broke hers, too.
She simply nodded. "It's fine. I never meant to force you to do this." Sighing, she added softly, "I know eternal life isn't for everyone."
A/N: The last part of this prompt challenge! I've honestly had a lot of fun with this one, since it was more varied than the other prompt challenges I've done.
