She'd never meant to ever use outdated medicine, it kind of just ended up being her last resort.
At first, she had been nothing but happy when her youngest daughter showed signs of magical talent. Quickly though, that happiness turned to despair as it became clear that her magic was not quite normal. Every time her daughter cast magic, it had a side effect, some sort of rot affecting it.
Ever since, she'd been trying to clear her little girl of this affliction. Nothing worked, and so the remedies grew stranger and stranger.
Deep down, she couldn't deny that something seemed off about this potion; but she gave it to her daughter anyway.
