There was an enormous space beneath the ground that most people had long forgotten about. There were dungeons on top a cave system, filled to the brim with the remnants of an ancient civilization.
Long since abandoned, not a soul was alive down there, although the hallways and caverns were scattered with the remains of humans and many other species.
If travelers would wander in there by accident, they might hear some disquieting sounds if they would listen carefully. The tumbling of rocks, the whistling of non-existent wind through corridors, the howling of ghosts yearning for peace in the afterlife.
And a rumbling, growing louder as they descended deeper into the ground.
