There wasn't enough time for him to double-check every drawer and every pocket. He only had as long as his accomplice could enthrall the people occupying the hotel, and by the time she dropped the spell, he needed to be out of there.

He moved quickly from room to room, stealing coins here, and expensive jewelry there. A sharp whistle broke his concentration. The signal.

Scurrying to find an open window, he almost broke a delicate vase. As it looked like it would fetch a pretty penny, he itched to take it with him. Alas, it likely wouldn't survive the climb down the drainpipe.
