163. Giant

It was common knowledge that it was best to just stay away from giants. They were mostly peaceful if left alone, but extremely dangerous if not.

On the other hand, it was also common knowledge that giants always built their camps around rare trees, with branches perfect to make wands out of. And that was exactly the kind of thing she was looking for.

Of course, she was a mage, not a thief, and so she hadn't stood much of a chance to stay completely unnoticed by the giants. She managed to get a hold of one branch anyway before one giant hit her with a club and sent her hurtling through the air.

It could have been worse though, she thought as she pressed a button on the strap of her backpack, which caused two wings kept afloat by magic to unfurl on her back.

She could have come unprepared.
