Back when she was a young witch, she'd had to pick a familiar, just like any other witch or warlock. By now the whole process had gotten more to the point of young mages trying to find a status symbol than a familiar, though. One witch, for example, had tried to trick a dragon into becoming her familiar.
She, however, had other plans. A brisk walk into the forest later, she'd forged a bond with a raven.
Other witches and warlocks thought it had been hilarious at first, such a mundane familiar for a promising witch.
Now that her familiar could go about anywhere without raising suspicions, she was the one who had the last laugh.
