Pushing the large leaf out of her path slowly, she kept her eyes focused on the insect delicately nibbling on some bark a few feet away. It had six rows of eyes, and she counted at least twelve legs. As far as she could tell, it had not noticed her yet. That was probably a good thing, as it was an undiscovered species (until now, that is), and therefore she had not a single clue what it was capable of.
Then, it suddenly whipped its head around, all eyes fixed on different points except for the central two, which looked at her directly. It hissed, and grew about twenty times bigger almost instantaneously.
She pulled out her gun. Apparently she was forced to study it dead.
