The silence was deafening in the car as we drove towards Birmingham. Alistair hadn't spoken a word since we got into the lift. I felt like when I was a child being given the silent treatment when I was in trouble before the shouting started. "So is everything okay?" Alistair asked quietly.
"Yeah, yep everything is fine" I kept my gaze out the passenger window.
"You sure because if there was something that happened you can tell me but you should know I'm only asking because I care." He gave me a quick look before going back to driving. Sighing thinking for a moment that I wouldn't say anything then Alistair said "look you are a big girl but I still feel the need to protect you so who did it?"
"Did what?" Playing dumb I tapped on the car door.
"The marks on your upper arms, shoulders and I don't know how far down your back," I gripped the seat as the truth of him seeing what Harry did.
I was once again the little girl who fell and skinned her knee, I didn't even know when the tears started to flow. Feeling the car pull over slowly in a lay-by and then Alistair holding me. "Please don't make me tell you what happened. I'm trying to fix it," I wept into Alistair's chest.
"If you need back up in fixing whatever this is. You are my little cubby, I'd do anything for you. I'd do anything to protect you." We sat there embraced and silent for a few moments before he asked "did Harry do this? Was it an accident?" I pulled away rubbing my eyes seeing anger boiling in him. "He did it didn't he? I'll kill him, no one touches you and gets away with it. Not even a jumped up prince."
"Please don't do anything I'm trying to figure it out, I think it was an accident" I pleaded.
His expression softened before he spoke again and he took my hand in his. "Amy I know there's something you're not telling me but we have a few days to sort things okay? We can focus on the cases then I want to know exactly what he did." I nodded as he reached onto the back seat, "I feel like you need this." He handed me the carrier bag and I opened it. Inside was chocolate, crisps and bottles of Fanta. He leaned over and wiped my eyes just like he used to when I was small. "It's just me and you and a huge bag of goodies."
