"Come on walking wounded," Puck teased as Alistair climbed into the back of the taxi. He turned to Daniel and I who were stood on the steps up to the house. "I'll make sure he keeps out of trouble," he climbed up inside the taxi too before it drove out of sight.
"So now we are alone," I said with a nervous tone. Biting my lower lip I clenched my hands trying to will away the shaking nerves.
Daniel slipped his hand in mine taking me back inside. Once the door was closed and locked he smiled down at me "so what kind of take away do you want?" I thought for a moment then glanced at the table beside the door, my eyes landing on the menu for the Chinese right around the corner. Daniel followed my gaze and picked up the menu, "Chinese it is then. Go relax while I order," he knew what I liked so I didn't need to say.
With plenty of faith in him I went into the living room and sat down. The day had been another of phone calls, virtual meetings and paperwork, so much paperwork and now all I wanted to do was sit and close my eyes. I listened to Daniel's voice coming from the kitchen as he ordered the food. It was strange to think about just how comforting his voice and mere presence was. Thinking even more about it I realised this wasn't a new feeling. I'd always felt a closeness to him, a sense I could trust him and now I knew why. Digging in my pocket I pulled out the double ring box and gently opened it. Inside was two rings both with a wolf head. Each wolf head contained a moon stone in their mouths both cut from the same stone, at Bea's request. She'd gone above and beyond for me.
Daniel walked in "they said should be 20 minutes or so." Smiling down at me he asked "what's that you got?"
I stood up matching his smile "actually I've been meaning to give this to you." I handed him one of the rings.
"Hey I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to get you a ring," he chuckled taking the ring.
"Well this is more to say I'm glad I've got you by my side," I explained blushing. He slipped the ring on his little finger then cupped my face. Taking the other ring from the box he slipped it on my little finger then looped his own ringed finger round mine. Leaning into the warmth of his hand on my cheek I closed my eyes smiling contently.
"I'll never get tired of that smile," he purred placing a kiss on my forehead. I opened my eyes as he asked "did you think about where you'd like me to mark you?"
Nodding I took his hand from my cheek and placed it over my heart, "right here."
