Alistair climbed back into the car handing me the security footage from the pixie boarding house cameras. The sun was now setting over Birmingham's skyline, if I hadn't had the pressing investigation to think about I might have actually enjoyed it. Flicking through the file on the vampire nest I could see it had been the same clan leader since the 1500s. By all accounts he seemed like a reasonable person. There didn't seem to be anything to even suggest they had an attack coming. Vampires attacking humans had become quite a rare occasion since the late 1940s. However the group who had attacked the wolves, pixies and vampires never needed a reason. They were more monsters than those they attacked and harassed. Alistair had come across the same three symbols the night he found me. He didn't talk much about that night to me, even when I asked questions but right now I had thought something might just help us. "Hey did you make any arrests or identify members of this group back when you found me?" I asked innocently.
He kept his gaze on the sheet of paper he was reading "no, I know personally you wish I knew more as do I but we never even got close." Sighing he glanced over at me. I looked away back down to the file in my hand. "Hey why don't we grab some dinner? Maybe something unnecessarily greasy?" He cheerfully changed the subject.
"Sounds good, can I ask one more thing?" I asked not looking at him.
"Sure," he answered with a curious tone.
"I know you didn't catch anyone but do you know what their end goal is? In all of the files involving the markings and this group there isn't any clue to what they want other than the obvious." I shuffled the papers in my hands.
Alistair didn't answer as he turned the key in the ignition. "If I were to guess their goal is to make all supernatural beings second class citizens or worse kill all of you off which you know we'd never let happen so let's get food."
"Okay," I still get he was holding something back but not wanting to press any further I sunk into the seat. He pulled off to little more than five minutes down the road to a Macdonalds. Rolling up to the screen he ordered me chicken nuggets, chips and a large latte, well it was going to be a long night and caffeine of any kind was very much appreciated. He drove on to the window and paid, then it was on to pick up. I could smell the nuggets before they were handed over to him and he handed them straight to me. Once we had the drinks too he drove off towards the nest.
