I didn't stay long, instead I said a brief hello to the other pack members and left. Alistair was still in the car outside so I slipped back in quickly. He gave me a curious look before ordering the driver to Buckingham palace. I didn't say anything but I knew I probably looked as awkward as I felt.
As mates Harry and I had met pretty early on in our lives. I wanted to be with him especially with every passing year but part of me still couldn't trust anyone but Alistair who had literally raised me. Even so I should trust my mate. I felt so conflicted.
On we drove up the mall and through the front gates. Alistair and I had done this journey many times before. The first being the day I met Harry.
When we reached the Queen's study she was sat behind the huge wooden desk with her glasses perched on the end of her nose. She briefly looked up before putting the papers she was reading down. I curtsied and Alistair bowed his head. She stood still grasping a sheet of paper delicately.
"How are you Amy?" She asked making her way round the desk.
"I'm good your highness," I replied quietly.
"Your highness you mentioned in the email you had some good news for Amy." Alistair seemed determined to get straight to the point. The Queen raised an eyebrow at him making me smirk.
"Ah yes, here you go." She handed me the sheet of paper.
I read aloud, "the new head of international, magical and non magical relations is hearby known as Amy Wolf." I gasped feeling a wave of happiness surge through me. This was something I'd worked for since I was 16 when Alistair had got me a job with him. "Is this for real?"
"Amy is this what you want?" The Queen asked.
"Yes, thank you so much." She went to sit back down behind the desk.
"Now off you go. I do believe the PM wants to see you at No 10." Both Alistair and I bowed our heads and went to leave. I heard her say "good luck!" As we left the room.
The moment we were back in the car headed to No 10 I started to squeal. "Oh my God I can't believe it!"
"Congratulations," Alistair congratulated me before taking his phone out of his pocket. He then hugged me and I swear he let out a tear. "I'm so proud of you," he whispered into my ear. Finally he let me go just as we were driving through the gates on to Downing Street. The car rolled to a halt and I jumped out. "I'll pick you up later, you'll do great." I smiled closing the car door and walking slowly up the few steps into No 10 Downing Street.
The police guard on the door nodded to me and said "afternoon mam," his strong east London accent shining through. I nodded in return and headed inside just as Boris Johnson was coming out, that distinctive blonde mop sticking out all over. We nodded to each other as he left.
Upstairs I met with the PM (currently David Cameron) in his office. Today the No 10 cat had taken up residence on the edge of his desk.
"Hello Amy, how are you doing?" He asked as he scribbled something down. I sat in the chair in front of the desk and the cat jumped onto my lap.
"I'm doing great thank you," I scratched the cat behind his ear. "Thank you for my new job."
"Ah yes, well I hope you don't mind the work. Unfortunately we've been putting cases that don't fit in other departments in to the files now belonging to you." He blew his noes, must have a cold. "You'll be acting as a investigator as well as an official ambassador between magic and non magic communities. I'll have all the open files sent to, um actually where would you like them sent?"
"The base, I'm living there mostly right now." It felt a little awkward saying that. Even Cameron knew about Harry and I. "Is there anything that I should focus on first?"
"Yes. There were some incidents last year involving purest groups attacking lone wolves, vampires living alone and a few fairies. One case was sent from America." The cat jumped down from my lap and sat by the door. "Other than that it's all there for you."
I thanked him and made my way out ringing Alistair to pick me up.
