Sitting in the relatives room now in a huge hoodie Daniel had found in the back of his car, I sat feeling numb. My hands hadn't stopped shaking, Daniel had had to help me wash off the blood from my hands. That in itself had taken a while through the tears, Daniel had been so patient. He now walked back into the room with two take away coffees, handing me one he then sat opposite me.
"He should be out of surgery soon," Daniel sipped his coffee. "I rang Felix, everything has been sorted there." Letting out a sigh I could tell he was trying to find words to help me feel better.
Taking his free hand I said "you don't have to distract me." I forced a smile which he matched before sitting beside me on the sofa. Leaning into him I closed my eyes, drained and numb from the whole evening. Daniel's arm around me pulled me in closer as I tried to focus on his heartbeat, steady as a drum.
The door clicked open and I sat up to see Becca walk in. She closed the door and sat opposite us. "He's out of surgery. They've said luckily the bullet didn't hit any organs." Taking my hand she smiled "the old bugger ain't dying just yet."
I smiled back a wave of relief washed over me, "how long till he's back to his usual self?" I asked.
"Doctor said he'll need plenty of rest but if all goes well a few weeks." She stood up about to leave "this was not your fault. Alistair loves you and he'd be telling you to go home and sleep." She turned to Daniel "take her home, even if she says she wants to stay."
"Will do," he chuckled as she waved goodbye heading out. Daniel helped me to my feet "come on, I do think we should get back. It'll just be us when we get back so we can eat something and then go to sleep." I nodded with nothing more to add. Heading out of the hospital we got back to Daniel's car and I froze in my tracks. Harry was stood close to the mustang. Daniel growled loud enough to make Harry take a step back from us, "get out of here."
Holding his hands up Harry replied with "look I need you to know I never meant for that to happen. I was...I mean you didn't have to tell my grandmother what I did."
"I didn't tell her anything," I mumbled.
"Well...shit...uh look...." He was stammering.
"It doesn't matter get out of here. If you come near her again or this pack, which includes Alistair I will not hesitate to...."
I stopped Daniel with a hand on his chest "please no more anger." I looked over to Harry "please stay away from us." Harry nodded leaving into the shadows at the edge of the hospital carpark. I must have tensed up because the moment Daniel reached for my hand I collapsed into him. Piling me into the car, we then made our way back home.
