Another crate of files was carefully dumped in my office at the base. I couldn't move for files. Apparently some of these cases had been building up for centuries. So logically I had decided to start at the very beginning. Unfortunately this was a bigger task than I had initially thought. A lot of the cases were very complicated and therefore I had only sorted two out of the thousands so far.
Becca, another agent who works with Alistair brought me a coffee from Starbucks. She was married so mainly worked here. She had brown hair always in a pony tail and often wore black suits with skirts but today she was wearing a black and white tracksuit.
I sipped the coffee thoughtfully. "Off to the gym?" I asked trying to take a break.
"Actually they want all agents to do a fitness test. Not looking forward to it to be honest." I wasn't surprised, she had two sets of twins at home. That should be a fitness test all on its own. "How's the new job?"
"Getting there, just a lot of stuff that is so old it's difficult to solve." I sighed shutting the file in front of me.
"How was Harry?" I could have guessed that's why she brought me coffee. She was after some gossip.
"He's fine," I almost whispered opening another file.
"Just fine?"
"Becca can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure honey." She perched herself on the edge of my desk.
"It's just, well I feel ready to be with Harry but not ready to be his Luna, to be the pack's Luna." I finally said it out loud and it felt good to.
"Amy, he loves you and if you told him this he'd be quite happy to not make you the Luna just yet. After all look at all this," she motioned round the room. "You have enough on your plate and I'm certain he'd understand this. You just need to talk to him about it."
"Thank you, I will." She grinned at me then stood back up.
"Well I'll probably see you later in a more sweaty state."
"Great can't wait," we laughed and she waved leaving me to my work.
Becca and Alistair were really the only agents that made time to talk to me. After all the rest thought I was just some orphan werewolf not worth anyone's time. Alistair had been assigned to me as a young agent. Back then he was full of energy but time had caused him to make the decision to slow down a bit. Him and Becca had helped raise me and never once been cruel to me, in fact they rarely told me off despite the fact I was a trouble maker. Since then I had grown up and was a sensible young woman.
I read the file in front of me dated 22nd February 1923. Yes, these stupid files went that far back, well even further. I'd just skipped the 1910s completely in my haste to look like I was ok.
It was nearly lunch time so I decided I needed a break. But seeing as I needed to talk to Harry I would ring him and ask if he'd like to go for lunch.
I picked up my iPhone which had spent the morning underneath a mountain of unsolved history. Swiping through contacts I found Harry's number. My thumb hesitated over the call button. Then with a sudden urge of courage I pressed it. Holding the phone to my ear I waited for him to pick up.
"Hello?" His familiar and comforting voice came through.
"Hey, want to meet for lunch?" I said quickly feeling the courage melting away.
"Yeah sure, where?" He asked, oh I hadn't thought of where. He must of sensed my hesitation because he said "why don't you come to mine? We can order pizza or something?"
"Yeah sounds great."
"Good I'll order it now then it'll be here by the time you get here. You still like pepperoni?"
"You know I do."
"See you soon."
"See ya." We both hung up and I grabbed my coat and locked my office before driving my own black Ferrari to Harry's apartment.
