The car rolled over the soft crunchy gravel up to a large Manor House. Every window was boarded up but the front garden was immaculate. Alistair parked up outside the main door then finished off his coffee. By now the sun was set and the only light we had was an old Victorian lamp post right by the front door. I'd visited a nest once before with Becca, the main London nest also served as the UK base. The visit was mainly to acquaint me with the current clan leader, Blane who I found charming if not a bit cocky when it came to the ladies. Vampires in general were really easy to get on with as nowadays they drank artificial blood or animal blood.
"You ready?" Alistair asked stuffing the rubbish in a plastic bag and dumping it on the backseat.
"Yep," we hoped out of the car and I rang the doorbell.
It was barely a moment later when the door creaked open and a young woman was smiling back at us, she leaned back and shouted "brother they're here!" She vanished and a young man appeared, they were both vampires but must have become them in their early twenties.
"Good evening miss wolf, I presume" like most vampires he had a silky tone to his voice. He gazed towards Alistair "are you her human handler?"
"Very funny Henry, wish I could say it was good to see you" Alistair replied with a grin.
Henry matched the grin with his own pointed canines, "ah yes it would seem those pesky attackers that ruined my night last night. Come in, I've prepared the security footage and photos my dear sister Lily took." He motioned for us to enter, so we slipped inside past him. "She has become quiet the budding photographer. Luckily no one got hurt except one of the attackers. I may have thrown him against the wall a bit hard." He led us through to a large study with books lining the walls and a huge fireplace roaring in one wall. "We get you both would appreciate the warmth of a fire." He sat behind the large desk which had photos and a tape spread out on. "We had to repair the damage due to the sunlight issue but tried to take photos of anything you might find useful."
Lily appeared in the doorway with a tray of biscuits and two mugs and two wine glasses containing what I assumed to be blood. "Almost everyone is refusing to come up from the lower levels. Are things going to become like they were before?"
"Like before?" I asked taking a mug which I discovered contained a black coffee.
"Yes when the killings happened," she offered Alistair a mug then took the glasses to the desk. "That awful group of humans killed so many supernatural creatures. They stopped about, hmm must be twenty five, no twenty six years ago now."
"Lily that's enough, of course it won't get that bad again" Henry shot his sister a stern look silencing her.
