The couple of weeks were just stupid missions. Finding lost cats, cleaning up yards, walking dogs. Today was plucking fruits from an old lady’s garden. Me and Sakura worked on the left side while the boys worked on the right. Kakashi was under a tree, reading his book. Of course.
I sighed, wiping the sweat off my forehead. It was a hot day, I was surprised I hadn’t collapsed yet. I swatted a fly away in irritation. The elderly lady came out with a platter of drinks. She smiled at us.
“Drinks for the hard workers.” she said, she started walking away but tripped. I ran and caught her gently, she was so fragile she could have broke something. I helped her up. I had a heart for the elderly. She smiled at me. “Why thank you, dear.” she said, then walked into the house.
We all took the drinks, it helped, thank god. I was about to start working when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to look at the old lady, she smiled and held a necklace in her hands. She put it in my palm, and clasped it closed. She then looked back up at me.
“This was your mother’s.” she said. My eyes widened momentarily.
“You knew my mother?” I asked.
“She was the most kind lady I have ever met. She was also the most prettiest. Until I met you. You are so much like her.” the lady said, then hugged me. I hugged back gently, afraid I’d break her.
‘Thank you.” I said, in a whisper.
“We’re done.” Sasuke stated, walking up to us. The team followed.
“Thank you!” the lady said, then she looked at me. “What is your first name?”
“Fubuki.” I said.
She smiled. “Meaning snowstorm. Things related to snow. Beautiful name, your mother did have a creative mind.....I am Granny Chinatsu.” she said.
“Well, I am glad I have met you. If you ever need anything, you can ask me.” I said, smiling. She nodded, then told Kakashi he could go, but she wanted me to stay for a while.
“Okay, bye.” Kakashi said, then looked over at me. He then left with the team. I walked in Granny Chinatu’s house with her. I sat down on her couch, she sat down with me. A really adorable dog came in and sat next to me. It was white and black, it had an icy blue gem on his head.
“His name is Shadow.” Granny Chinatsu said. I bent down to Shadow, he licked my face. I smiled at him, he nuzzled my neck. I sat back on Granny Chinatsu’s couch, she smiled at me.
“He seems to like you. You know, when I pass away, I want you to have him.” Granny Chinatsu said. My eyes widened. Seriously?
“I would love that. But why would you give him to me? Why me?” I asked.
“You see, Shadow will never act like that to anyone besides me. He doesn’t greet people like that. You are one of the rare people who he will love. He is an ancient dog.” Granny Chinatsu explained.
“Ancient?” I asked, frowning slightly. “He doesn’t seem so old.”
“He was my great great great great grandma’s pet. She got it from a Mayuko, it only gets along with my clan and yours. It was found by Kaminari Mayuko, she captured him. The crystal on his head is from her.” she explained.
Shadow sat next to me, he had his eyes locked to mine.
I looked over at Granny Chinatsu.
“Why do you trust me so much?” I asked. She smiled.
“Dear, when you caught me, I read you. I can read people when they touch me in any way, your arms grabbed me. I read your past, I read your experiences. I read your emotions.” she explained. That caught me off guard.
“So you know my whole life story?” I asked.
“You never know, some of your siblings might be alive.” she said, out of the blue.
This made me shake my head.
“Impossible. I saw them die.” I urged.
“How long has it been since you walked in the Mayuko compound?” Granny Chinatsu asked.
“Since the massacre. Why? They can’t possibly be living there.”
“I’m not saying they are. But did you check if their stuff was gone?” she asked. I got up.
“I got to go.” I said in a small whisper.
“Good luck on your journey.” she immediately said. She knew what I was going to do.
I went outside and looked at the sky, it was darkening. I went to the Hokage’s office, I walked in and looked at him. He was still here, good.
“I am going to my old village to see the Mayuko compound.” I said.
Kakashi and my squad walked in, they walked over and looked at me.
They were still here as well?
“Why? If you’re going, so is your squad.” The Hokage spoke.
I sighed.
“They don’t know my reason, I didn’t tell them what happened-“
“Then tell the story of your massacre.” The hokage said. I closed my eyes, and sighed. I opened them and looked over at my squad.
“Come, we have to leave now.” I said. Sakura’s eyes hardened.
“We don’t want to come to your stupid journey.” she snapped.
“This is a mission.” The hokage pointed out, he stood up and looked at all of us. He left the room without a word.
I started walking, I waited by the gate while my team members got their stuff. When they came back, I stood up. We started walking.
“So about your massacre.” Naruto started, putting his hands behind his head.
“What about it?” I asked.
“Tell us the story, we need to know. We’re your squad.” Sakura said. She was actually not trying to get Sasuke’s attention this time.
I sighed.
“Okay......”
