When Jisung finally came to, he had a terrible headache and the bright lights shining above him made his feel like his head was about to explode.
Despite being out of it, he realized that he didn't recognize his surroundings and used all of his muscle to try and sit up to loom around, but as soon as he did someone stopped him, "No, no, calm down Jisung. It's okay, I'm here."
He looked to the side to see his father looking at him. The man had puffy eyes and a runny nose, as if he had been crying not too long ago.
Jisung lay back down with his father's help, and stared up at the ceiling for a moment, before looking to his dad, "Appa.." he said in a raspy voice.
"Yes Jisung.. whatever you need." He answered quickly. He was in a seat right next to the bed.
"Where.. where am I?" Jisung asked. The room looked very plain. It was light blue and white, and it all looked very... sterilized.
"The hospital, baby.." he smiled comfortingly.
Then Jisung remembered. He remember all that had happened, and it stung to think about, "How..?"
"Someone found you in the back alley behind the school, what happened? Why are you hurt like this?" He asked, seeming distressed.
Jisung paused for a moment, "I got.. jumped." He lied, and he knew he shouldn't, but there was no way he could tell his father the truth.
"But when the police searched, all of your stuff was still there." He said quietly.
He knew.
Jisung looked away, "I don't know then.."
Suddenly an unknown woman came into the room, and Jisung perched himself against the headboard of the bed to get a better look at her.
"Hello Jisung. It's good to see you're awake. I'm Dr. Kang, your doctor today. How are you feeling?" Her smile was warm and it made Jisung feel slightly better.
"O-okay.." he said quietly, eyeing her cautiously.
"No need to feel nervous, Jisung. I'm only here to help. Would you like to know your injuries today?" She asked, as if she were in customer service.
Jisung only nodded.
"I've already told your dad here, but you've broken your arm in two places, a broken rib, a punctured lung and a severe concussion." She concluded.
Jisungs jaw dropped. That all sounded so... serious. Was he going to die?
"Now, your in stable condition so no need to worry, and we've already operated. Could you tell me how this happened?" She said.
Though her smile was nice, Jisung was hesitant to speak.
After a while, his dad answered for him, "He says he was assaulted."
"Ah. Did you know the people who hurt you?" She asked more questions.
Jisung shook his head. Shouldn't the police be the ones asking these questions? Why was she?
The woman nodded, "Well, you'll be here for a few weeks before you can go home, so please, make yourself comfortable." She said, "Call if you need anything."
She walked away soon after, smiling to both Jisung and his father.
It wasn't long before two more people entered the room. They were cops, both men.
One pulled up a chair and sat by the bed, while the other remained standing, "Hello gentlemen. I'm Mr. Lee and this is my partner Mr. Kim." One said finally.
"Nice to meet you." Jisungs father spoke.
"You too. Would you mind Stepping out of the room for a moment Mr. Han? We'd like to speak with Jisung separately." The other one said.
The man hesitated before nodding slightly, "I'll be right outside Jisung, simply call if you want me." He smiled, pecking his sons forehead.
Jisung nodded and felt his heart sink as he was left alone with the two men. He was confused and scared.
He lifted himself to sit straight up in the bed, watching every movement the two men made.
"So Jisung, you say you were assaulted?" One spoke.
Jisung nodded.
"How do you mean?" Mr. Lee asked. He was the one sitting down.
Jisung wasn't sure how to answer the question. What did they mean? "I'm sorry... what do you.. mean?" Jisung asked.
"We're you sexually assaulted Jisung?" Mr. Kim inquired.
Jisung was taken aback, but nonetheless shook his head.
"Are you sure? Jisung, there's really no other motive for someone to hurt you like this if you didn't know your assaulters. All of your possessions were safe and your clothes had been stripped from you."
"Only my jacket.." Jisung whispered, staring at his lap.
"It's common for young men to feel they can't confide in the police. Are you sure." Mr. Lee asked again.
"I'm sure." He said once more.
Mr. Lee nodded, scribbling something in his notebook, "So give me an account of what really happened then."
Jisung shook his head. He didn't know what to say.
"You can tell us Jisung. We won't get mad. We promise." Mr. Kim said.
Jisung shook his head again.
"We're you involved in an exchange if illegal drugs or other substances?" Mr. Kim asked.
Jisung shook his head.
"You need to tell us the truth Jisung. Or we can't help you."
"Okay. Some kids from school beat me up but please, please don't telly dad, you can't tell him!" Jisung cried.
"Why don't you want him to know?" Mr. Lee asked.
"He'd be mad." Tears spilled from Jisungs eyes as he begged, "You can't tell him. Please, please, you really can't!" He sobbed.
"I'm afraid we can't do that dear.." Mr. Kim said softly, "We have an obligation."
