Taryn watches as Thorin looks her over. It is almost like he is trying to make sure it is really her. Of course she does have an identical twin sister, named Vanya. But her sister still lived in Mirkwood with their father and their older brother Legolas. And her sister would never have anything to do with Dwarves, Vanya was a lot like their father in that way.
Neither of the two past lovers say a word to each other. They both just hold their gaze. Neither of them really know what to say to the other. What do you say when you find out the love of your life is still alive? Taryn wonders to herself where Thorin has been for the past 171 years. And why is it she was never able to find him and why he never looked for her.
Taryn opens her mouth as if to say something, but Thorin beats her to the punch.
"Gandalf why did you invite an Elf on this quest?" Thorin asks the wizard in an a dry tone of voice.
Taryn instantly feels hurt. It's bad enough that she was dragged away from him because of her father 171 years ago and that she had no clue where he was. So once she did leave Mirkwood she could not find him. But seeing him now proves that he really was alive and she wonders why he never looked for her. But to hear him call her by her race and not by her name just hurts.
"Excuse me I think I need some air," Taryn finally speaks for the first time since Thorin arrived.
Taryn let out a deep sigh as she made her way past Thorin and back into the entry way. She slowly grabs the handle on the front door and opens the door. She walks out into the cold night's air and exhales loudly. It was like she was holding her breath that whole time. Of course as an Elf she could hold her breath for a long time and be fine.
Taryn walked down to the fence surrounding Bilbo's property and leans against it. She had dreamed about finding Thorin again a lot in the past 171 years and it never went like this in her head.
------------------------------------------
Thorin's POV:
"I invited her because I thought it was long time you two knew the other was still alive. I also invited her, because I know she will be able to provide great help on this quest. She is light on her feet and fast if we are attacked. She can see, hear, and smell better so she will know when danger is around first. And because of her Elven Magic she is a great healer and also a skilled fighter. As I said she will be great use, if you give her the chance." Gandalf huffed out at Thorin. The wizard was obviously annoyed by Thorin.
"Help? A dragon attacks Erebor and the Elves just look on from the hill." Thorin says angrily.
"Thorin Oakenshield I am disappointed in you. You know Taryn is nothing like her father and you know she did try and help that day. In fact if it wasn't for her saving your sister, your nephews would not be here today." Gandalf says to him and then heads into the kitchen to get away from stubborn dwarves.
Thorin let out a long sigh as he sat down at the dinning room table. One of the dwarves brings Thorin some food (of what's left) and some ale. Thorin began to eat the food given to him as Balin stared at him.
"What?" Thorin asks Balin with his mouth still full.
"Don't you think you should go talk to her?" Balin asks Thorin in more of a statement way then a question way.
"And say what? How she clearly ran away home to Mirkwood," Thorin said obliviously angry with her.
"Well obviously something happened that you need to ask her about. Gandalf said her name of Rivendell and she told us when she arrived that she is now exiled from Mirkwood, but she did not say why." Balin said back to Thorin.
