Planks of various thicknesses and lengths were scattered everywhere in the Clark's backyard. Lizzy's dad was building a small tree house. Seeing such a condition, Joel was asked by his mum to take Lizzy along to Bobby's house, just so they didn't have to hear the hammering and drilling all day long.

Lizzy sang her new favourite show theme song to the house. It was quite an earful really but Joel didn't want to spoil the fun. He preferred to walk faster just so the song could end. He pushed a doorbell. The door opened and Bobby was jovial. "There you are!" But his eyes faltered seeing Lizzy there with him.

'Wotcher!' Lizzy greeted.

'Hi Lizzy!' Cole greeted, appearing behind Bobby.

The two boys exited the house. Bobby had a ball clutched under his arm. 'What is she doing here?' Bobby asked, bitterly.

'Her dad's building something in the backyard. I'm just taking her along,' Joel said. 'Mum's order.'

Bobby snorted. 'Mum's order. Fine, whatever then.'

They headed to the park. 20 minutes to get there, but the walk was worth it as it was beautiful. The park was connected to the forest. It had a big lake and lots of grassy areas for picnics. There were tennis courts, a basketball field, and a football field in further part.

'Right!' Bobby shouted when they stood next to a goalpost. 'First we're stretching. Then we'll score as much goal as possible. Loser will buy ice cream in the city.'

'Wait,' Lizzy said. 'I thought we're just hanging out in the park. No one told me we're going to the city.'

'So? If you don't like it, just go home, Lizzy Clark. No one's expecting you to be here anyway,' Bobby said dismally. 'Joel, lead the stretch, yeah?'

Lizzy had a bit of difficulty hanging out with them on most days. Bobby was determined to belittle her. Cole played along with whatever Bobby liked to do. Joel felt bad about this, but he wouldn't punish them for being the brats they were. They played to score some goals. Bobby didn't think Lizzy would keep up, but by the tenth goal, Bobby finally came around.

'You're not so bad after all, for a girl,' Bobby said.

'Right... yeah... thanks, Bobby. I didn't think you could compliment anyone. That's a start,' Lizzy said.

Bobby frowned. 'Don't get used to it.'

It turned out Cole lost and he had to buy the ice cream. Before they left, they played a little more of stealing the ball from each other to score some goals. The boys played rougher, elbowing each other and Lizzy tried to balance their chaos.

'Dungheads!' yelled someone.

The four of them stopped to look at the person who had insulted them. Sam Lorry. Bobby's nemesis. Sam's mates stood behind Sam. Lizzy's impression of them were a group of idiots with mostly snots in their noses.

'Sam,' Bobby stood readily with a puffed-up chest. 'What do you want?'

'Scums like you don't belong here,' Sam said.

'Yeah. Get out of here, scumbags,' said one of Sam's friends.

'Nice vocab, dipshit,' Bobby said.

Sam noticed Lizzy and his eyebrows raised. 'So you're letting a girl in your group, now? Then what? Sissies?' He thought it was funny so he laughed. His friends laughed with him.

'At least we don't have a pack of retards like you,' Lizzy snapped back.

Sam and his friends stopped and glared at her. Lizzy thought her comeback was worth it, but Bobby looked back at her in disdain even though the comeback was good by the slight change of expression.
