It happened around January. He was handing over an essay about deserts and the teacher wasn't amused by his work. The teacher started pointing out Joel's mistakes. It was a long speech and the other kids were mocking him for it. To make this a big deal, you see, Joel wasn't one who usually gets lectured about his schoolwork, so he felt ashamed of it. He touched the teacher's desk and suddenly it was gone.
Everyone was stunned. Some of them were amazed, though the teacher needed a minute to assess what had happened.
'Joel... Joel Lisbon. Headmaster's office. Now.'
The teacher told the Headmaster what happened to the desk. Joel didn't know how, but it did happen. The Headmaster gave Joel detention after class before he was dismissed. When he got back to class, Bobby asked him where he was.
Joel blinked. 'Hm? What? I just got back from the Headmaster's Office,' Joel said.
'What did you do?' Bobby asked, seemingly in surprise.
Joel was confused. He glanced at the teacher's desk and it was back. 'Did someone find the desk?'
'Found the desk?'
'The desk...'
'What desk?'
'Teacher's desk?'
'What's wrong with the teacher's desk?'
'It was gone, remember?'
'You're weird.'
Joel didn't understand.
'Joel,' the teacher spoke by the doorway. 'Take a seat. I hope you can revise your essay tomorrow.'
Later on, Joel found out that he didn't have detention at all. The teacher didn't remember taking Joel to the Headmaster's Office. Odd. He let this go and assumed it was one of his make-believe scenarios.

He turned his own rubber into a mouse. The class wreaked havoc on the running little creature in the classroom. Everyone got up on their desks, screaming. They were scared of the little mouse.
Then they forgot, just like that. Everyone was suddenly seated as if nothing was happening, so was he. He found himself clutching on something and when he opened his palm, it was his rubber.

The water in his own water bottle turned into milk.
No one noticed it but himself.

The broken clay in art class was shattered. He swore it shattered on the floor, but it was fixed on its own, sitting idly on the floor. No one remembered the clank.
He walked home after that clay incident. Lizzy was right next to him as they went home.
'What are you thinking about, Joel?' Lizzy asked.
'Nothing.'
'You're thinking when you raise your eyebrows.'
'Really?'
'Yeah, when you're trying to understand what you don't understand, you do that glaringly, like a confused idiot.' She laughed.
'Lizzy, language,' Joel's mum said, walking behind them.
'Sorry Claire,' She looked back at Joel. 'Come on! Tell me!'
'You won't believe me.'
'Try.'
'Okay... So... today I just made clay art in the arts class. I was about to bring it out to dry, but I dropped it. I swear, it shattered on the bottom. But the clay fixed itself.'
'That's it?' She sounded disappointed.
'No, really, no dents, no breakings. Perfectly on the ground as I put it there. But I remember dropping it and seeing it shatter. Everyone saw it, but then they got busy and forgot.'
'Maybe you have special power.'
He was annoyed that Lizzy was mocking him, of course, not surprised at all. The people he told it reacted similarly.
'Then again...' the girl started. 'Sometimes I do things that I think I did. I think it's the power of our imagination.'
Joel sighed frustratingly. 'Yeah alright.'
'Listen, once, I turned my favourite bunny plushie, Snowy, into a real bunny,' she said.
'Really...?' he asked disinterestedly.
'Yeah, but my mum didn't want more pets in the house. I don't know what she did to Bunby, hopefully, living a nice and cosy life with a happier family. Hopefully, he gets carrots all day long.'
'And what about your plushie?' Joel asked annoyedly, staring straight at the path.
'Snowy? I can't find him... Maybe somewhere in the house. I have lots of plushies after all.'
Joel turned a frown into a smile. 'You do have a weird amount of plushies, Lizzy, you have too much,' Joel said to mock her.
'I like plushies, they're soft. Anyway, you stole Blue and now he's in your house. Give it back.'
'No!' he shouted excitedly. He started running, causing Lizzy to chase after him.
'Give me back my Blue!' Lizzy shouted, yet not without amusement.
They started shouting and laughing, ignoring Claire's call.
