She felt like she was part of the Wizarding World ever since Joel sent all those letters through an owl. She had the image of Hogwarts based on his letters. all the things he said, she was looking forward to experience.
But a problem was still aching in her mind. She hadn't told Cole and Bobby about it still. They were still thinking she's going to their school. She wasn't. She kept feeling guilty whenever she hung out with them, afraid of accidentally blabbering the truth that she would see them less for a school of magic. They would probably hate her, she expected -- just as they hate Joel.
***
It was Saturday. As it was starting to get colder and colder to winter, she was out wearing a thick jacket. She, Bobby, and Cole were in the park, playing a three-way football at a wide field of thin snow. There was only one goal between two scrawny trees.
Bobby was competitive. Even if it was just a game, he didn't want to lose. He disregarded every rules to foul play. And he won for it.
Lizzy came last. She would have to buy chocolates for them. 'Oh whatever!' said Lizzy, as she was demanded. She went to fetch a vacuum flask of hot tea and a thick blanket that she had kept on a tree trunk. She put the blanket around her and sat down with the blanket over her bum to keep out of the cold. She took a sip of the tea to warm herself.
'Can we have some?' Cole asked.
She gave them mindlessly and complained when the two boys drank a heap. She shook the flask to determine how much was left in it. It felt like a tiny splash, leaving her with almost nothing but a single gulp. 'Really... I'll have to head back home after I buy the chocolates, yeah. It's freezing out here.'
'Hey morons!' shouted a voice from the distance. Sam Lorry stood there with his friends.
'Ah great...' Bobby spoke tiredly. He and Cole went over to confront them, showing their toughest face to muster. 'What do you want?' challenged Bobby.
'Payback. You think you can get away this time?' said Sam.
Tension between them were building like feral dogs. Fists clenched up over their chests, ready to throw a punch.
Lizzy stood up, thinking if she should join Bobby and Cole this time. Her mates wouldn't like her doing that, but clearly, they were outnumbered by Lorry's gang. She was tired of seeing them battered unfairly, so she approached the lot.
Someone shifted his feet, triggering the others. Fists flied on foes. Bobby and Cole didn't stand a chance.
'Stop it! All of you!' shouted Lizzy, running over to them. 'This is so stupid!'
They were too busy punching and kicking to stop. Bobby was held from behind by Ash. Sam started punching.
'No!' shouted lizzy. She tackled Sam to the ground, trying to pin him down so Bobby wouldn't get hurt. 'Stop it!'
'Get off of me! Stupid cunt!' shouted Sam. He accidentally striked her face with his elbow as he struggled to be free.
Lizzy got shoved aside as Sam went over to knee kick Bobby in the stomach. Her vision blurred, confused, which way was up and down? The world was spinning.
Cole was held by Dylan and got punched by Brad in the stomach.
Cole and Bobby tried to fend them off, but only to become a brutal punchbag by Sam's gang.
Something wet was trickling down Lizzy's nose. She stared down on thin ice, just laying there. Red thick blood fell off from her face, landing on the muddy white ground. She touched her nose and found red blood on her fingers. Her nose stung in pain, when she realized her nose was broken.
