I frowned at my reflection as I put my long blonde hair up in a bun. It had been such a long time since I wore my hair up, that I barely even recognised myself.
I quickly grabbed my jacket and made my way to the train station. I pulled my jacket across my chest and shivered as I waited on the platform in the cold winter air. I wished the train would hurry up.
After what felt like an age it eventually arrived at the platform. I quickly climbed aboard and sat next to the window. I pressed my head against the pane and gazed out at the landscape as it rushed past. I was nervous about starting my new job. I hadn't worked for a while, since I'd been made redundant.
As we got nearer and nearer to my stop the butterflies swarmed in my stomach. I could do this. I had too. I took a deep breath and stood up, as the train slowly came to a stop.
As I stood on the platform it suddenly dawned on me that I had no idea where to go.
"Excuse me." I asked a passer by.
"Yeah." she said sounding disinterested.
"Can you tell me how to get to Holby General Hospital?" I asked.
"That way." she snapped as she pointed north.
I smiled my thanks at her and headed north. After walking for a while, I spotted signs for the hospital. I breathed a sigh of relief and followed them.
I gasped when I reached the hospital and saw how large it was. What had I gotten myself into. I followed the signs to the A and E department.
"Hi, I'm here to see Connie Beauchamp." I said when I reached reception.
"Her office is down the hall, second one on the right." they told me.
"Thanks." I smiled.
I knocked on the door and entered the office. I gulped slightly as I saw her sitting at her desk , looking down her nose at me. I had never felt so intimidated.
"Hi Mrs Beauchamp, I'm Emma Chambers." I said nervously.
I frowned as she looked at her watch and I realised that I was late.
"Yes of course, we'll just get the paperwork done and then I'll introduce you to your colleagues." she said bluntly.
"Right that's everything, follow me." she said a while later.
I followed her as she led me down a corridor and into the A and E department.
"Can I have your attention please!" she exclaimed.
I stood next to her nervously as I looked around at a sea of faces. I had never felt so nervous and uncomfortable.
"This is Emma Chambers she is our new nurse, she hasn't worked in an A and E department before so lets make sure we break her in slowly please." she announced.
I could feel my cheeks colouring as everyone stared at me. I stood uncomfortably as she walked away and left me.
I looked up as a handsome doctor smiled down at me.
"I'm Doctor Caleb Knight." he said as he held his hand out for me to shake.
"Emma." I smiled as I shook his hand.
"We'll start you off in cubicles first, until you find your feet." he said.
I smiled and followed him.
"This is James Anderson, he presented with lacerations on his arms from broken glass. The glass has been removed so he needs the wound dressed.
"Okay I'll get started." I said.
"I'm Emma, I'm just going to put some dressings on your arms." I said to James as Caleb left and pulled the curtain.
He stared at me as I slowly cleaned his wound. I felt myself squirm under his gaze. I picked up the bandage material and gently applied it. I flinched as I felt him touch my arm.
"You're very beautiful." he said.
"My eyes are up here." I told him as he spoke to my cleavage.
"We'll have to get together sometime." he grinned.
I smiled uncomfortably. The way he watched me made me want to squirm. I bandaged his arm in record time and left the cubicle. I needed to do something about his behaviour. I quickly made my way to Connie's office.
AN: Sorry this chapter is boring, it'll get better I promise! ;) x
