Emma's POV

"Are we still going on this shopping trip?" I asked Ethan as he returned from his talk with Caleb.

"Yeah I guess." he said quietly. I couldn't help but notice how pale he was.

"You okay?" I asked him.

He nodded slowly. I decided not to press him. I knew that he'd had a long day at work and must be tired.

I wandered around town, trying to find something suitable.

"Ethan?" I asked for the third time.

"Huh." he said as he looked at me.

"I said what colour curtains do you think?" I asked him.

"I don't know." he shrugged.

"It was your idea to decorate the spare room, I thought you'd be more into this." I pointed out.

"Sorry." he whispered.

"There's obviously something wrong, so what is it?" I asked him.

Ethan's POV

I stared at her as she waited patiently for me to answer. I didn't want to give in to the temptation of asking. Caleb was just trying to cause trouble, it's what he always does. I didn't want to start an argument and give Caleb what he wanted. He didn't deserve to have control of my life. He just wanted to undermine the one thing that mattered to me.

As much as I kept telling myself that, I couldn't escape the feeling that was growing in my mind. The nagging thoughts wouldn't go away. What if he was telling the truth for once. She wouldn't do that to me surely. I hated that once again he was getting to me.

"Is something going on between you and Caleb?" I blurted.
