I froze and turned to face Connie.

"What do you think you are doing?" she snapped.

"I've placed chest tubes before, it's an easy procedure." I told her impatiently.

"You don't go behind my back on things like this!" she exclaimed.

"I can do this, I know I can." I insisted.
"No you will not." she ordered.

"Why not?!" I exclaimed.

"It's not professional for you to perform an operation on someone you have an emotional attachment too." she stated.

"But.." I started.

"Your heart will rule your head and you could end up making bad decisions. It's safer for her to be looked after by someone else." she interrupted.

"Please Mrs Beauchamp, I need to save her." I pleaded.

"Take a few moments Dr Hardy." she said.

I looked at the floor and quickly wiped away the tears that were falling.

"Dr Knight, you're needed in resus." she called.

My head snapped up as Caleb wandered over.

"You're letting him do it!" I exclaimed.
Caleb glanced at me and scoffed.

"Dr Knight is a good doctor and he doesn't have an attachment to her, I'm confident in his ability to carry out the procedure." she said shortly.

"That makes one of us." I muttered.

Connie quickly walked away, leaving me alone with Caleb.

"I'd better get started." Caleb said smugly.

I scowled as he walked away.

"Caleb!" I called as he walked away.

"Yep." he said his hand on resus door.

"Take care of her for me." I whispered.

He nodded and quickly walked into resus.
