Ethan's POV

I looked up as she walked back into the room.

"Who was that?" I asked her.

"The police." she sighed.

"What did they want?" I frowned.

"Just the usual stuff." she said quietly.

"Like what?" I questioned.

"They are still looking for the driver." she stated.

"Do they any new leads, they wouldn't have called if they didn't?" I asked.

"For god sake Ethan, what's with the interview?!" she exclaimed.

"I just want to know what's going on." I told her.

"I told you." she said defensively.

I stared at her for a while. I couldn't help but feel like she was keeping something from me. A nagging feeling in my stomach that wouldn't go away.

"It's the weekend, we should go out and do something." she said, changing the subject.

"Like what?" I sighed.

"We could go for a walk up the North Downs." she suggested.

"Might as well." I said quietly.

"It's a bit of a long way, we should probably take a backpack." she smiled.

"I'll get some stuff together." I said as I stood up.

Emma's POV

I sighed in relief as he finally left the room. I hated lying to him and it was made worse by the constant questions. He cared a great deal for me, I didn't want to hurt him anymore than I already had. I had to hope that he would drop the subject.

I quickly made some sandwiches and smiled as Ethan came back into the room.

"I made sandwiches." I told him.

"Cool." he said as he held out the backpack for me to place them inside.

"We could go to Kits Coty, it's a lot closer?" he suggested.

"That's a good idea, it'll be cheaper to get a taxi to Aylesford." I answered.

"That's what I thought." he grinned.

We eventually arrived at the walk and climbed out of the taxi. I picked up the rucksack and wandered along the lane.

"Give me that." he said sternly.

"Give you what?" I frowned.

"The rucksack." he said.

"It's light, I can manage." I told him.

"No it'll put pressure on your shoulder." he insisted.

I sighed and handed it to him.

"I think we head this way." I said pointing to the right as I looked at the map.

"Have you been here before?" he asked.

"Once on a day out at the foster home." I answered.

He smiled at me sympathetically.

"It must have been hard living there." he said gently.

"It wasn't too bad, I had a few friends there." I told him.

"Didn't you have any foster parents?" he asked.

"A few but it never lasted very long because Stuart was such a terror and they didn't want to split us up." I sighed.

We walked in silence for a moment.

"I've been thinking that we should get a car." he suggested.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yeah it'll save having to get the train to work all the time and we'll be able to get out and do more things." he pointed out.

"That's a good point, a fairly cheap one though." I said.

"Yeah not a sports car like Cal." he chuckled.

"No, maybe not." I grinned.

"I'll keep an eye out for one." he said.

"Don't forget we have a wedding to save up for." I pointed out.

"I haven't forgotten." he smiled.

"Marrying you is more important to me than getting a car." I told him.

He turned and smiled at me.

"Speaking of which." he said, rummaging in his pocket.

I watched closely as he took something out of his pocket.

"Give me your hand." he grinned.

I did as he asked and felt my skin tingle as he gently held my hand steady. I smiled as he gently placed my engagement ring back on my finger. I smiled up at him as he slowly leaned forward and kissed me.
