DEATON WAS IN THE same vault where the Alphas had kept Boyd and Cora. Reid and Scott found themselves going there while the others went to the hospital.

Once they entered the place, they saw Deaton whose wrists were tied together as he hung from the ceiling. The looked tired and weak which made Reid frown.

Scott was quick to act as he rushed forward, desperate so free his boss. Having noticed the mountain ash surrounding him, Reid called out, "no, Scott, wait—" but it was too late. Scott ran straight into the invisible barrier surrounding Deaton thus hitting it and sending him flying backwards.

He looked at Reid, "could've said that earlier."

"Could've taken a look around you first," Reid shot back, his eyes staying fixed on his legal guardian.

"How do we get him out of there?" Scott questioned, letting out an exasperated sigh, "there's mountain ash around—"

"— I know," he cut him off, slightly on edge, "we gotta try." Reid nodded towards Deaton, "you first."

Scott rolled his eyes but went forward nonetheless. He attempted to get past the mountain ash. His eyes flashed red for a brief second as he tried to break the seal and Deaton saw it. The mountain ash, however, was stronger and pushed him back. "I can't," Scott panted, his eyes going to Reid, "it's impossible."

"I've never done this before," Reid muttered as he stepped forward, "but first time for everything, right?"

Reid stood a few steps away from Deaton, right in front of the mountain ash. He placed his hand forward, expecting to feel the barrier but he frowned when his hand went right through, nothing stopping him from getting in so he stepped in. He didn't know he could do that. Scott, Deaton and himself were surprised by that.

"Okay," Reid chuckled, half–amused and half–scared, "what the fuck?"

"Language," Deaton muttered weakly as Reid freed him and caught him before breaking the seal, to allow Scott in. The older man sat on the ground, feeling exhausted.

"I thought no Supernatural could get past mountain ash," Scott voiced out his thoughts as he sat down beside Deaton while Reid was on his other side, trying to figure out what the hell just happened.

"Not exactly everyone," Deaton managed to speak, "there are some exceptions like... Banshees."

"I'm not a Banshee," Reid was quick to say, "is that even a thing?"

"Of course it is," Deaton muttered, "we'll figure this out later."

Just then, Sheriff Stilinski walked in the place earning surprised looks from the others. "How'd you find us?"

"The vials in the clinic with the Celtic symbols on 'em?" Stilinski pointed to the symbol on the ground, "I knew that one of 'em looked familiar."

"Sheriff, thank you for being one hell of a detective," Deaton smiled at the older man who nodded, "you bet. Let's get you an ambulance." And then he was out.

Deaton leaned in to Scott, "your eyes were red! Bright red!"

"How is that possible?" Scott flashed him a look of shock and Deaton was about to say something when Sheriff walked in again to inform, "paramedics are on their way! I'll be back in half a minute."

Once he walked out again, Deaton spoke, "it's rare— it's something that doesn't happen within a hundred years. But, every once in a while, a Beta can become an Alpha without having to steal or take that power. They call it a True Alpha. It's one that rises purely on the strength of character, by virtue, by sheer force of will."

Scott's eyes widened as he realised, "you knew this would happen."

"I believed," Deaton muttered, "from the moment I knew you were bitten, I believed."

"You're not the only one," Scott said, looking at Reid, "you knew too."

"Yeah," the hybrid nodded, "and Deucalion as well."

"Deucalion isn't after Derek—" Deaton spoke, "he's after Reid and you." The place went silent for a few seconds as Scott let the newfound information sink in until Reid broke the silence, "Scott, get out."

"What?" Scott raised his brows at Reid in confusion, "why? What did I do?"

"No, I meant—" Reid began, trying to find the right words, "— like... Like... Get out." Deaton rolled his eyes at the boy's lack of manner— his incapability to ask something nicely sometimes, "what he's trying to hard to ask is; can you excuse us for a few minutes, please?"

"Oh," Scott quickly stood up, "yeah, of course. You could've asked nicely. I thought you wanted me gone."

"I do," Reid joked earning a small chuckle from Scott who walked out, leaving the two alone.

Deaton turned to Reid, giving him his full attention. The seventeen year old took a few seconds as he struggled with his words, unsure of what to say when the older man beat him to it, "I know, you don't have to apologise."

"But I do," he sighed, his right hand wrapping itself around his left wrist as his elbows rested on his knees which were pulled up as he sat on the ground, leaning against the wall. "I'm sorry for being the worse—"

"— hey, I didn't call you so you'd come and save me." Deaton explained, "I called you because I knew you'd find me and you did."

"Lydia helped," Reid admitted, a smile reaching his lips at the thought of the strawberry blonde, "and Stiles, Cora and Scott— they all did."

"So..." Deaton trailed off, "you care about them?"

"Yeah, maybe."

"And what about Lydia?" The healer questioned with a knowing look on his face, "do you like her?"

"I'm not sure."

Deaton rolled his eyes at him, "can you give me a straight answer?"

"Not really."

"You know, Reid—" Deaton began, "—you make me want to say words that I never thought I'd even think of saying."
