REID TOOK LYDIA to his house after what went down, not bothering to stay to deal with anything else.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked her for the third time ever since they got to his house. She had taken a shower and was in one of his shirts while sitting on the bed with a cup of coffee in her hands.
"I'm fine," she nodded reassuringly, taking a sip of her coffee, "are you?"
"Yeah," he had also taken a shower and changed into fresh clothes since he was soaked in blood, "I'm healed."
"But still," She muttered as he came to sit in front of her on the bed, his body facing hers. His eyes trailed down to her neck which had a very visible bruise on it, "do you need to go to a hospital?"
"No," she shook her head, sighing when his hand came in contact with her neck, softly brushing his fingers afainst the bruise. "It'll go away. I've had worse. Why was she so strong?"
He clenched his jaw, adverting his eyes from her neck to her face, "she wasn't. I was weak."
Lydia shot him a confused look, "what do you mean?"
"Seeing you strapped to a chair with a wire around your neck like that made ne feel vulnerable," he spoke, his voice almost inaudible but she could hear since she was inches away from him. "It made me think irrationally."
She was quiet as she listened to him talk, not sure where he was going with this.
"I wasn't thinking about fighting her," he sighed, his hand instinctively going to his hair, "I was thinking about saving you. And that was some stupid shit."
The strawberry blonde didn't quite know what to make out of the situation. "Where are you going with this?"
"Thing is, my mind wasn't thinking about getting rid of her but to save you which is why... I did not fight to kill her, I fought to get to you." He took a deep breath, "and she knew about it. So, she used that to her advantage."
"She had powers," Lydia muttered, "telekinesis, was it?"
"Yeah, I've never faced something like her before but still—" He paused, "I should've been able to kill that little bitch. Now she has Stiles's dad."
"We'll find him," Lydia reassured, "it's not your fault. She had the upper hand with her powers, You were close to killing her, I saw it. But would you have done it? Kill her, I mean."
"Of course," he shrugged, not really seeing a problem with killing the woman as he stood up from the bed, "she's the enemy and we get rid of them, right?"
"Right," she bit her lip, clearing her throat as she remembered words that Jennifer said to Reid when he was up against the wall, "what did she mean?"
"Specify."
"She said that I don't know who you really are—" she wasn't sure whether to bring this up or not but she knew she had to. Her feelings for him were only growing stronger day by day and she wished to know who she really was falling for. "— and how you killed your dad and... and hunters and... how you're looking to kill your mom as well. I— I thought it was Allison's dad who killed yours. Even he seemed to believe it. Is it true?"
His silence was her answer.
She bit her lip and softly nodded her head at that, not knowing what else to say. It made her realise that she didn't know him. They were mates, sure but what did she really know about him?
Was he even who he told her she was? She just blindly gave in the temptation without thinking much about it and she didn't regret it back then but now that she was thinking about it, it made her question everything.
"What are you thinking about?" His voice broke her back from her thoughts. She shifted her eyes to his, letting go of her lower lip, "I— I was just wondering whether what's going on between us is a good idea—" she cut herself off upon realising what she was saying. She couldn't help it, it was the mate bond pushing her to tell the truth. "What do I really know about you, Reid? You've killed people— your dad and you're only seventeen."
"I didn't know there was an age requirement for someone to be able to kill someone else but I'll make sure to keep that in mind."
"I'm serious," she muttered, brushing off his sarcasm, "you say we're mates, right? It's a sacred kind of thing, isn't it? I went to read about it the other day. They're destined to be together for life. And you know what allows that to happen? Trust.
"Why, don't you trust me?"
"Weirdly, I do," she nodded her head, a sigh escaping her, "but you're obviously keeping secrets and— I get it. We don't know each other that long to start spilling secrets but still, I won't force you to tell me anything. I can tell it's probably a hard topic for you to talk about. I know you must've had a good reason and I believe that you'll tell me when the time is right."
"I will," he grabbed the now empty cup from her hand and placed it on the nightstand, "you look tired. Why don't you get some sleep, okay?"
"Okay," she muttered, allowing herself to lie down on his bed while he grabbed the blanket and covered her with it. "Wait, aren't you going to—"
"— Later," he interrupted, already knowing what she was going to ask, "I gotta do something first. I'll be outside."
