Sunoo's POV

I woke up to loud yelling outside my bedroom. Confused, I rubbed my eyes, yawned, and sat up, trying to figure out what was going on. The voices were angry, and I started to get nervous when I realized it was my mom arguing with someone.

I jumped out of bed and hurried outside the bedroom. I peeked around the corner and saw mom standing near the front door. In front of her was a man, tall and intimidating, with a frown that could scare anyone.

"I've had enough of your excuses lady!" the man shouted, waving a bunch of papers in mom's face.

Mom's voice quivered as she replied, "I told you, I'm trying my best. o-our store is not getting much money, b-but I'll do everything I can to make ends meet."

The man's eyes narrowed, and he sneered, "Excuses won't pay your debts. You owe money to different sources, and you're avoiding your fuckin' responsibilities madame."

Mom began to cry, and I felt a knot form in my stomach. I had heard her talk about financial struggles and debts before, but I didn't realize it was this serious.

"We need the money, NOW." the man demanded, his voice growing louder.

"I promise I'll find a way," mom pleaded. "Just give me some more time."

The man shook his head, his anger seeming to escalate. "I've given you enough time. If you don't pay up, we'll take legal action. Your possessions, your home-everything could be seized."

I couldn't stand seeing my mom like that and beg in front that asshole anymore. I stepped out from behind the corner and faced the man.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" I shouted, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and fear.

The man turned to look at me, smirking. "And who are you?"

"I-I'm her son," I said, trying my best to sound brave.

He chuckled darkly. "Well, shithead, you should know that your mother here owes money to multiple sources. This isn't a small matter."

My mother grabbed my arm, pulling me closer to her. "Dear, go back to your room. I'll handle this."

I didn't want to leave her alone to deal with this man, but I could see how much this situation was affecting her. Reluctantly, I nodded and walked back to my room, my heart still pounding.

As I sat on my bed, I couldn't get the image of my mother's tearful eyes out of my mind. I knew I had to do something, but I didn't know what. All I wanted was to protect her and make things right for our family again.

I hadn't even had a moment to process the argument with the debt collector when a sudden knock on my window made me jump. I turned to see Sunghoon, peering in. Confused, I rushed to open the window.

"Sunghoon, why are you here?" I asked, my voice tinged with curiosity.

"Sunoo, you have to come with me, like right now." Sunghoon said in a hushed tone, his eyes wide with concern. "It's about your dad."

My heart raced as fear and worry flooded my senses. "What happened to my dad?"

"You need to see for yourself. Just come quickly," Sunghoon replied, urgency in his voice.

I nodded, not even bothering to change out of my pajamas. I followed Sunghoon out of the house and down the street. He led me to his bike, and we sped off towards the police station.

As we arrived at the police station, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Sunghoon parked his bike, and we hurried inside. The atmosphere and the sight of police officers made my anxiety spike even more.
