Sunoo's POV
Heeseung had been trying to call his dad non-stop since they left the mansion. Each time, his face grew a little more worried.
"Still nothing," he muttered, lowering his phone.
"Hey," I said, trying to sound reassuring. "He's probably just busy with work stuff. You know how he is."
Heeseung nodded, but I could tell he wasn't convinced. None of us were, really.
We boarded the private jet Heeseung somehow managed to get on such short notice. Money talks, I guess. As soon as we were settled, a nurse started treating Jay's injuries. He winced as she cleaned his wounds, but I could see him trying to put on a brave face.
Niki watched the whole thing with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Looking good, Jay," he teased. "The ladies love a man with battle scars."
Jay scoffed, but I caught the hint of a smile on his face. "Shut up, you idiot."
I shook my head at their silliness. Even in the middle of all this chaos, they were still... them. It was comforting, in a weird way.
As the jet took off, I felt the exhaustion of the past few days catching up with me. I drifted off to sleep, but it was restless. Images of the fight, of Jay's beaten body, of Heeseung's worried face kept flashing through my mind.
I jolted awake sometime in the middle of the flight. The cabin was dark and quiet. Everyone else seemed to be asleep. I looked out the window at the night sky, vast and endless.
"Minho... Jake..." I whispered their names, hoping somehow they could hear me. "I hope you guys are at peace."
My mind drifted back to my life in Busan, before all of this started. It felt like a lifetime ago. I wondered what would have happened if I'd never gone to Seoul in the first place. Jake and Minho would still be alive, that's for sure. But my family would still be drowning in debt.
Fate was complicated, I thought. Annoying sometimes. But it wasn't entirely decided for us. We still had choices to make. I just had to choose wisely from here on out. Then fate will do it's thing.
With that thought, I drifted back to sleep.
...
The next thing I knew, we were landing in Seoul. There was a car waiting for us, some guy handing Heeseung the keys. As soon as we were all in, Heeseung floored it. The speedometer kept climbing higher and higher.
"Heeseung," I said, reaching out to touch his arm. "I know you're worried, but we need to get there in one piece."
He took a deep breath, easing up on the gas a little. "Sorry."
I nodded, squeezing his arm before letting go. But deep down, I was steeling myself. Preparing for the worst. Because in our world, the worst seemed to happen more often than not.
We pulled up to Heeseung's father's house. It looked normal from the outside, but something felt off.
"Jay, Niki, stay in the car," Heeseung ordered. "Be ready for a quick getaway if needed."
They nodded, and I could see Jay's relief at not having to move much. His face was still tight with pain.
Heeseung, San, and I approached the house, guns drawn. "Watch out for any traps," San warned as we entered.
The inside of the house was a wreck. Furniture overturned, pictures smashed. And then we saw the bodies. Men in black, sprawled across the floor. Heeseung looked at them, his eyes filling with tears. I knew he was recognizing his father's security team.
