Heeseung's POV
As the mud splashed onto my arms, I felt a surge of disgust rising within me. I desperately wanted to wipe it off, but my hands were clenched tightly around the rope, pulling with all my might to guide the carabao through the mire.
The stench engulfed me, and I could already smell myself reeking of filth. My muscles screamed with fatigue, yet I couldn't release my grip.
"Sunoo," I grunted, struggling to maintain my grip on the rope, "c-can I have a break, please?"
"Oh HAHAHA. Sure thing!" Sunoo replied with a smirk, waving to his Dad. "He would like to rest for now Dad."
Relieved, I approached Sunoo, wiping sweat from my neck. "Why are you laughing?" I asked, bewildered by his amusement. "I've just been through hell."
Sunoo chuckled, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Why? When I suffered hell from you, you made fun of me," he teased.
I frowned, feeling a twinge of guilt. "...I—"
"Just kidding!" Sunoo interrupted, grinning broadly. "At least now you know what life's like here in the province."
"Come on, you're pretty messed up," Sunoo remarked, gesturing towards the house. "Let's get you washed up."
Gratefully, I followed Sunoo inside, eager to rid myself of the layer of shit clinging to my skin. Heading straight for the shower, I let the warm water cascade over me, washing away the dirt and weariness of the day.
Sunoo's POV
As I gazed out the window, lost in thought, I felt arms wrapping around my waist which made me flinch. Turning slightly, I saw Heeseung, freshly showered and eager for affection. But before he could lean in for a kiss, I gently placed a finger on his lips, indicating that there were more pressing matters at hand.
"Get dressed," I instructed softly, "I'll go help my mom prepare food."
"Oh, wait," he exclaimed, suddenly enthusiastic, his expression shifting to one of determination as he quickly dressed himself, "let me cook!"
I hesitated, unsure of his culinary skills, and also Mom and Dad are still not okay with Heeseung after all the happenings, but relented nonetheless. Leading him to the kitchen where my mother was already busy chopping, Heeseung nudged me from behind. Summoning my courage, I spoke up.
"Mom," I began tentatively, "Heeseung wants to cook."
My mother paused, considering for a moment before responding, "I've already started chopping."
Heeseung finally showed himself, "I-It's okay, I can continue it."
With a grateful smile, I accompanied my mother to the living room, leaving Heeseung to work his magic in the kitchen. It was heartwarming to see him so eager to contribute.
Sitting together on the couch, I turned to my mom, my heart heavy with emotion. "Trust me, Mom," I implored, taking her hands in mine, "Heeseung is really doing everything he can."
She looked at me with a mixture of concern and love. "Trust is not easily gained, my Sunoo," she replied softly, her words carrying the weight of her maternal instincts. "You're my precious child, and knowing someone hurt you would hurt me too."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I squeezed her hands tighter. "You'll give him a chance, right? You and Dad?" I asked, my voice trembling with hope.
