As the sun was still hiding, Ava groaned as she heard her alarm in the morning. She scrunched her nose, sticking her arm out and trying to find the button on her alarm. She clumsily made the alarm clock fall on the ground. Luckily, that made it stop screeching in her ears. The brunette sat up and yawned.
-Sleep is underrated., she whispered to herself as she threw her blanket away, immediately regretting as she felt cold air touch her skin.
She quickly get up, getting ready for the new day. She remembered that she had to go to the principal's office in the morning as Sarah Crimson had informed her during lunch. She had to be there early, which would mean taking an early bus. Ava rushed around the house, getting ready and dressed, stumbling to the garage and putting her usual shoes on with the school uniform that she had to get used to. She kissed her mother goodbye, running out of the house and getting to the bus station just in time to catch the early bus. Ava got in and sat down, finally remembering to breathe as she felt her heart rate going a little too quick.
The brunette zoned out during the drive, being too tired to form any actual thoughts. She made her way out of the bus once they arrived at the school, struggling to remember where the office is, but quickly finding it due to the help of a janitor. She knocked on the door and waited.
-Come in., said a woman.
Ava opened the door and walked in, rapidly closing the door behind herself and looking at the woman standing in front of her.
-Oh. Good morning. You must be our new student, Ava Silva., smiled the woman.
-Yes. I was told to come here this morning?, said Ava hesitantly.
-Yes. I'm principal Jillian Salvius. Call me Miss Salvius. I just wanted to formally welcome you to our school and ask if you need anything or have any thoughts that you'd like to share with me?, explained Jillian, motioning for Ava to take a seat.
She sat down, looking around the office, seeing some diplomas and then pictures around the office.
-Mmm, no. Nothing I can think of. You have a lovely school. Some students are questionable but that's the norm. It's inevitable., chuckled Ava.
-I suppose that is true, yes. Alright then, Ava. I hope you'll enjoy your next few years here. If you need anything, you know where to find me., nodded Jillian.
Ava got up and nodded.
-Thank you, Miss Salvius., she smiled and walked out of the office quickly.
She politely closed the door and sighed in relief. It was still quite early so she still had a lot of time to just wander around for a bit. She then realized that she hadn't gone to the bathroom yet. She made her way there and got in the stall. As she closed the stall, she heard two girls walking in, already talking.
-Yeah, someone started a rumor yesterday that we have the secret royal daughter that hasn't been seen since her 3rd birthday in our school. Imagine. Royalty among us., said a girl.
-I bet it's Sarah. She already acts like she's superior to everyone else around here. Maybe she really is superior., replied the other girl.
-Could be. But the girl had dark brown hair., stated the first girl.
-She could have dyed the hair., argued the second girl.
-Good point. I'm just saying. Could be her. Could be any other girl in our school., replied the girl as they both walked out of the bathroom.
Ava listened to the whole thing, rolling her eyes as they mentioned Sarah's name. She walked out of the stall after she was done, washing her hands and looking in the mirror. She scrunched her nose.
-A princess being among us. Funny., chuckled the girl.
Ava walked out of the bathroom, walking through the halls, liking how empty they were. She walked past the locker rooms when she heard a loud bang. She frowned and walked in, not thinking twice. She closed the door quietly, hearing two voice.
-You were supposed to be my friend. Now you're just a heartless cunt. A bully., said a voice that sounded familiar.
-Yeah. I'm your bully. Try not to forget that I have the upper hand. I own you. Tell anyone about this, Beatrice, and you know I will make your life a living hell., replied another familiar voice.
Ava frowned when she heard Beatrice's name. She heard how serious the situation sounded, opening the door again and letting it close with a slight slam to let them both know that someone was there. Ava walked further into the locker room, seeing the two. Sarah had Beatrice cornered against a locker. She shook her head.
-Oh Sarah. What are you doing?, said Ava, watching as Beatrice turned to look at her, having a red cheek.
-Get out, Silva., warned Sarah.
-Awww. No, I don't think I will., replied Ava as she walked closer to them.
Sarah pulled away from Beatrice to face Ava. The smaller girl didn't fade.
-I can now confirm that your only personality trait is being stupid rich bitch., shrugged Ava.
-You're playing a dangerous game., warned Sarah.
-Ava, leave. Go to class., said Beatrice with a firm tone, not having moved away from the locker.
-I'm just saying. You should probably go check on that expensive car of yours., suggested Ava, watching Sarah's eye widen as she ran out of the room.
Beatrice frowned and watched her run out. Ava walked up to her.
-Are you okay?, asked the brunette.
-What did you do to her car?, replied Beatrice with an angry tone.
-Nothing. I lied to get her out of here. I promise. What is this, Beatrice?, frowned Ava, reaching for Beatrice's arm.
-Nothing. Let's go to class. And stay away from her. Okay? I'm serious., warned Beatrice, moving away from Ava and now walking past her.
She grabbed her backpack and walked to a bench, open her backpack to check if something was missing.
-Your cheek is red. She slapped you pretty hard., admitted the brunette.
-It's red?, frowned Beatrice, walking to the sinks in the bathroom part of the locker room and seeing it.
Ava walked up to her, just watching her.
-What did she mean by her owning you?, asked Ava out of curiosity.
-You heard that?, panicked Beatrice, looking at Ava now, through the mirror.
-Yeah., nodded the smaller girl.
-What else did you hear?, asked Beatrice with a mixture of anger and panic.
-I just heard you calling her a cunt and then her saying that she owns you. Oh and threatening you if you were to tell anyone about it., replied Ava, looking back at Beatrice.
-God, Ava. You weren't supposed to hear that. No one was supposed to hear any of that. She cannot know that you know any of that. Do you understand?, said Beatrice, now fear visible in her tone, this time having turned around to look at her.
-Yeah. Yes. I understand. But what did she mean by it?, asked Ava again.
-Nothing. Don't ask that again. Just- Just forget about all of this. Let's go to class., said Beatrice, clearing her throat and walking out quickly.
Ava sighed and followed her, not saying another word, not even during the lesson, obviously aware of Beatrice's unusual behavior but not wanting to be pushy.
