-I see. Can you give us her name?, asked the girl again.
-Whose name?, asked a female voice behind Ava.
Ava turned around, seeing Beatrice looking back at her with a confused but also upset expression. The smaller brunette's eyes widened and she gulped.
-I can explain-, tried Ava with a shaky voice.
-Please do., replied Beatrice with a firm tone, motioning for everyone else to get out.
Ava waited for the last person to close the door and then looked at Beatrice, feeling insanely guilty.
-I...I had to do something., started Ava but Beatrice shook her head and scoffed.
-I told you I'd take care of Sarah. I told everyone I would. But then you try to go behind my back and ask my girls for help? I thought you trusted me., replied Beatrice, sounding clearly disappointed.
-I do. I trust you. I really do, Bea. I just...I can't bear seeing you get hurt again. And now that Sarah told me about you, she will use that against you. She will use me against you. I can't let that happened. And I can't just let her hurt my girlfriend. I'm sorry but I had to do something., argued Ava, standing her ground.
-No. No, you didn't have to do anything. You just had to listen to me and trust me. I told you to stay away from Sarah and to stay out of it. Why won't you just listen?!, said Beatrice, getting worked up and hitting her hand on the table.
Ava flinched a little and looked down.
-I'm- I'm sorry. I'll...I'll stay out of it. I won't do this again. I'm sorry. Please., rambled Ava, not daring to look up at Beatrice.
The older brunette frowned, understanding what had just happened. She realized how her action affected Ava. She walked up to her, taking Ava's hands gently.
-Look at me., said Beatrice with a softer tone now.
-I'm sorry., whispered Ava, not moving.
-Ava., replied Beatrice, frowning a little.
Ava looked up at her, tears forming in her eyes.
-I'm not him. I won't ever hurt you. I'm sorry I got angry. I have a right to be upset but that does not mean that I will cause you any harm, okay? You're safe with me, Ava. I promise., explained Beatrice, just holding Ava's hands in hers.
Ava nodded, taking a deep breath and letting her shoulders drop as she finally spoke.
-Yeah. I'm...I'm sorry. I got scared for a second. But I trust you. I do. But you have to understand why I did this, Bea. You used your girls to go after people who hurt me. Why can't you do the same for you?, asked Ava, genuinely curious why she hadn't asked for help herself.
-Because I keep my private life away from them. You're the first person they all got to meet from my personal inner circle. They don't know that I dated Sarah. Only Vincent does. They don't know about what she does to me and I'd like to keep it that way., replied Beatrice, not letting go of Ava's hands.
-Please let me help you. Let them help you. Please, Bea., pleaded Ava desperately, not wanting Beatrice to get hurt.
Beatrice sighed and looked down. She shook her head and then looked back up at Ava.
-I don't know. I don't know, Ava. Sarah could ruin everything., replied the older girl.
-She will ruin everything if we don't retaliate. Please., argued Ava, looking at her with pleading eyes.
Beatrice closed her eyes and sighed. She took her hands away from Ava's hands. She walked away a little and then turned around to look at Ava.
-If I haven't succeeded taking care of Sarah until the end of the school week, so Friday, then I will ask for their help. Deal?, said Beatrice.
The younger girl nodded and smiled, content that Beatrice had somewhat agreed to let herself be helped.
-Deal., smiled Ava, walking up to her and hugging her.
Beatrice hugged her back, sighing a little. Ava then realized something and pulled away.
-Wait, how did you know that I was here?, asked the younger girl out of confusion but also curiosity.
-I wanted to give you your book back so I went to the bus stop but Camila told me that she hadn't seen you. I waited for your bus but you never showed up. I remembered that you asked me what I was doing after school so I just connected the dots and came here., shrugged Beatrice, looking at her.
-Oh. So you lied about the dog thing?, wondered Ava with a frown.
-Hm? No, no. I wanted to go. But this was more important., explained the other brunette.
-I see. Well, do you want to go now?, asked Ava with a smile.
-I'm going to drive you home now, Ava., replied Beatrice, taking her hand again.
-What? Why? I don't want to go home., frowned Ava, not pleased with the idea of going back to her house.
-I know. Your mom called me earlier though since you wouldn't answer your phone when she called you. She wants you home as soon as possible so she can show you the footage. She doesn't want your first time seeing it being in court., explained the taller girl.
Ava shook her head, taking her hand back and crossing her arms.
-I don't want to go home., refused Ava.
Beatrice frowned a little, watching the other girl.
-Ava, you'll have to see the footage eventually., said Beatrice with the same slight frown.
-I don't want to., replied Ava, looking down.
-I understand. I promise I do. But it will be easier for you to see it at home in your comfort zone with your mother instead of the court in front of everyone else., explained Beatrice, trying to convince Ava.
-You're my comfort zone., shrugged Ava, knowing it sounded cringe but it was how she felt.
-If you want me to be there when you watch it, I'll be there., said the older brunette.
-Promise?, asked Ava, looking at Beatrice.
-You have my word., nodded Beatrice with a soft and reassuring smile.
Ava sighed and then nodded, taking Beatrice's hand.
-Okay. Take me home., said the smaller girl.
Beatrice smiled at her, proud of her reaction. She pecked her cheek and then guided her out of the mansion. She walked her to her car, opening the passenger's door for Ava and then getting into the driver's seat herself. She started the car and drove off.
