-You want to adopt Angie?, asked the woman, surprised.

-Yes. I do. Is that possible?, wondered Beatrice, her expression changing into a serious one.

-Yes. It is. She just have to get checked by the vet first and there's documents you would have to read and sign., nodded Mariah.

-How fast can that be done?, asked Ava as she watched Angie close her eyes, getting comfortable on Beatrice's lap.

-Well, the vet is leaving in an hour. The documents are done before that. You could probably already take her home with you today., explained the woman.

-Can we take her to the vet then?, requested Beatrice, looking up at the woman now.

-Yes. But Angie wasn't too fond of the vet last time. I don't know how she will react today., replied Mariah.

-I can go in with her, right?, asked Beatrice.

-Yes, if you wish to., nodded the woman.

-Alright, show us the way., smiled Ava as she opened the cage's door for Beatrice and Angie.

-Okay, Angie. Let's take you home., smiled Beatrice as she gently picked up the dog, carrying her out of there.

Mariah guided them to the vet's office down the hall. Ava walked next to Beatrice, watching the scared dog looking around, trying to understand where they were going and what was going on. Ava slowly reached her hand out and pet Angie's head gently, smiling as the dog looked back at her and then started to lick her hand repeatedly.

-So much love to give, hm? You're going to get along great with Bea. Tough exterior but deep down you're the sweetest and softest of them all., smiled Ava, feeling a sense of joy, knowing that Beatrice had always wanted a dog.

Beatrice couldn't help but chuckle at that, giving Ava a soft peck on the cheek. Mariah stopped in front of a door and knocked. They waited a few seconds until a woman opened the door and looked at the three, confused.

-I don't have an appointment until 6:15pm., frowned the woman.

-I know, but this young woman wishes to take Angie home with her and for that, she needs to get checked out first., replied Mariah.

-Angie? That brute? Wow., scoffed the woman as she stepped aside and let them in.

Beatrice and Ava shared a look, already understanding why Angie hadn't done well at the vet's appointment the first time. Beatrice carried the dog on the table and kept petting her, clearly seeing that she was scared and anxious, her tail tucked between her legs.

-You want to take her home? Are you aware of how dangerous this breed can be?, warned the vet.

-Any breed can be dangerous if they're raised the wrong way., replied Beatrice, trying to maintain her calm composure.

Ava noticed her girlfriend tensing up, seeing her clenched jaw. She gently placed a hand on Beatrice's shoulder, getting her attention.

-Babe, how about you go with Mariah and pick out a pretty collar and leash for Angie, hm? I'll stay with her., smiled Ava, trying to make this easier for everyone.

Beatrice looked at her, knowing that it was probably best not to fight with the vet since she would have to give the green light to take Angie home. The older brunette nodded and looked at Mariah, who had seen and understood the whole thing.

-Follow me., smiled Mariah as she opened the door again.

Beatrice nodded and stepped out of the room, feeling bad for leaving Angie but knowing that Ava will take good care of her.

Meanwhile, the veterinarian started her checkout. She barely touched the dog while inspecting her, clearly afraid of her. Ava kept petting Angie, hoping to somehow make her less anxious with her gentle touch.

-Your friend should think twice before adopting such a vicious breed., said the vet.

-Ma'am, you are here to make sure that Angie is okay. Not to share your opinion., replied Ava, not caring enough to look at the woman, just watching Angie.

-I am just saying. They are known to be aggressive and-, started the woman again.

-And vets are known to be caring and professional. Looks like stereotypes can be wrong., replied Ava with a shrug.

The woman scoffed and took her gloves off.

-Whatever. You can take her. She's healthy., said the vet.

-What about her legs? She was limping., frowned Ava.

-That's just the lack of muscle. She is so skinny that even walking is a big effort. She also has a wound on her hip but nothing alarming., stated the woman, her back turned to Ava.

-I see., nodded the brunette.

The vet turned around and handed her a document without saying another word. Ava read the title, seeing that the woman had given them the green light. She looked at Angie and smiled softly.

-Can I pick you up?, smiled Ava, moving closer to the dog.

Angie started licking her face and moving closer to Ava as well.

-I'll take that as a yes., chuckled the younger brunette.

Ava gently picked the dog up, carrying her out of the vet's office and down to the reception where she found her girlfriend with a collar and a leash for Angie. Beatrice pecked Ava's forehead before whispering a soft 'thank you'.

-Alright. Everything's ready for you to take her home. I don't think I've ever done an adoption this fast., chuckled Mariah.

-Thank you. For everything., smiled Beatrice.

-Of course., nodded the woman.

-Oh uhm, can we still go out with the other dogs as well? We'll keep Angie with us of course., wondered Beatrice.

-Yes, yes. No worries. You know where to go., replied Mariah with a bright smile.

Beatrice nodded as a thank you, taking Angie from Ava and holding her in her arms. They walked back down the hall and went through a door, gaining access to an enormous garden. There were already dogs running around and chasing each other. Beatrice smiled at the sight, feeling like a little child again. Ava adored seeing her girlfriend this happy, hooking her arm with Beatrice's. Together, they walked up to a blanket that was placed for them, sitting down with Angie. Multiple dogs approached them, loving to give and receive love and affection. Of course they made sure to give Angie the attention she needed as well, noticing how anxious she seemed to be around the other dogs. They spent the remaining of the late afternoon on that blanket with digs who sought for a home. When it was time to leave, they gave the last few pets and kisses before walking out of there with a new addition to the family.

-I should drop Angie off at Cam's before going to our next spot., stated Beatrice.

-Wait- there's more? I thought this was it., frowned Ava.

-Nope. There is more., smiled Beatrice.

-Okay, okay. Let's go to Cam's., nodded the younger brunette with a grin, impatient to know what else Beatrice had in store.

They quickly made their way to the car, helping Angie on the backseats before driving off to their friend's house who had already been notified of the situation. She immediately agreed to look after the dog until Beatrice came back from the date. So they dropped Angie off and then got back to the car, ready for the continuation of their date.
