Beatrice didn't go back home for almost a week. She had asked Marisa and Phil if she was allowed to stay with them for a bit, which they both agreed to without hesitation, with the condition that Ava would still have to attend school. Ava wouldn't be caught complaining about it, more than happy to have her girlfriend at home. Every morning, Beatrice woke up with Ava, ate breakfast with her and then walked her to the door, where Dora picked her up. She watched the drive off. She wasn't planning on going back to school for a bit since she didn't want to face the public.Marisa stayed home a few days, working from home every now and then. Beatrice didn't want to be a burden to anyone, so she would spend most of the time doing chores and helping with the household as she'd wait for her girlfriend to come back home. She surprisingly did a great job at it, even if she had her maids and helpers back at the mansion. Beatrice always had the outmost respect for her employees, never feeding into the superiority that her mother adored to take advantage off, making cleaners do dirty jobs to show them who's the boss.
Once Ava would arrive, they would spend the entire afternoon together, either doing homework that Ava had brought home, or studying. They'd eat dinner together as a family, the five of them, just talking about their days. In the evening, they'd either watch a movie together or they'd do something alone, without the family. Beatrice even ended up picking Diego up from school twice. He had grown fond of her. To her surprise, he was a lot like Ava, even if they weren't blood related. She found it adorable. The weather was pretty nice so she also spent some afternoon in the garden, playing baseball with Diego while Ava watched.
Her parents tried on multiple occasions to reach out to her, her mother by sending her threats and her father by simply wanting to know if she was safe and well.
After the week of peace, it was time for Ava to go to the court. She was extremely anxious and worried, not sleeping well nor eating well. Beatrice tried her best to support her girlfriend through the difficult times.
The court session started off pretty good, as Marisa interrogated the boy and got him to admit that he wanted to sleep with her daughter. It was then Beatrice's turn to go to the stand. She knew she was under oath and she knew that she would have to tell the truth.
-State your name., said Marisa.
-Beatrice Young.,replied Beatrice into the microphone.
-Good. Now, Beatrice, can you tell us exactly what happened on that night. What did you see? What did you do?, asked the mother.
Beatrice kept her eyes on Marisa, not wanting to look at anyone else.
-I was out with friends at the bar. Ava was one of the friends. I was sitting on a couch with my water when I saw her dancing with a boy. Him. I then was approached by a girl, so I'm not sure what happened during that little while. When I joined my friends on the dancefloor, I saw him drag Ava out of the bar by the back door. I followed them, having noticed that Ava didn't seem conscious. He dragged her to his car, putting her in the backseats. He got in and close the car's door. When I approached the car, he was on top of Ava, reaching under her dress. I opened the door, grabbing him and pulling him out. Then I helped Ava out of the car, having to hold her close as she was barely conscious. He told me to mind my business-, explained Beatrice but got interrupted by the boy's father.
-Objection, hearsay., said the man.
The judge looked at the man and nodded. Marisa looked at Beatrice.
-Don't say what he said. Just say what happened., explained Marisa.
-Okay. By then, my friends had walked outside and helped me hold Ava. I grabbed him by his collar and told him to leave. He drove away with his car and I took Ava home to her parents., described Beatrice once again.
-So, the video I am about to show is video footage of a security camera outside of the club. It will show exactly the scene that Miss Young just described., said Marisa as she pressed play on the recording.
Everyone watched in silence, including the judge.
After the video was done, Marisa walked back to her table and sat down next to Ava. The boy's father got up and approached the stand to question Beatrice.
-What is your relation to Miss Silva?, asked the man.
-Objection! Relevance?, exclaimed Marisa.
-I'm trying to make a point here, your honor., said the man.
-Overruled., replied the judge.
-Answer the question., said the lawyer to Beatrice.
-Miss Silva is my girlfriend., replied the brunette with her jaw clenched.
She heard a few gasps and murmurs around the room, trying to ignore it.
-Did you already have those feelings towards Miss Silva on that night?, asked the lawyer.
-Yes., said Beatrice without hesitation.
-So you were jealous of seeing her dancing with the suspect?, added the lawyer.
-Suspect? He tried to rape her-, tried Beatrice but she got interrupted.
-Answer the question., warned the lawyer.
-No. I was happy that she was letting loose. I was not jealous., stated Beatrice.
-So you didn't attack my son out of jealousy?, scoffed the lawyer.
-No. I was protecting my friend from a predator., explained the girl, not breaking the eye contact with the lawyer.
-A predator? You said it yourself that you didn't see him put anything in her cup., replied the father.
-I didn't. Yet I saw him slide his hand on her thigh as she was unconscious. Does that no count as predatory?, asked Beatrice.
-I'm the one who asks questions., said the man with a hint of anger in his voice.
-You know that he did it. He knows that he did it. He's a danger to young women., continued Beatrice.
-Do not talk about my son like that!, yelled the lawyer.
Beatrice held a smirk back, knowing that she finally hit a nerve.
-Sir, go back to your desk., ordered the judge.
Beatrice watched him walk back to his table and then looked at Marisa and Ava who looked at her with the same smile.
-I've heard enough. We will have a break now and then the verdict will be shared., said the judge as she grabbed her wooden hammer and hit it repeatedly.
Beatrice got up and walked out of the room with Marisa and Ava. They walked to an office that she had reserved for them. Beatrice sat down on a chair and sighed.
-I hated every second of that., said the brunette.
-You did good. You even made him snap., replied Marisa, smiling at her.
Ava walked up to her girlfriend and pecked her cheek.
-You did amazing., said Ava as she sat down next to her.
Beatrice nodded and relaxed back against the chair. She sighed a little.
-People will know about us, Ava. You do know what that means. It's going to be all over the news. I'm sorry, your life is about to change-, said Beatrice, not being able to finish her sentence.
Then the door flew open. The boy had burst into the room, gun in his hand.
