Chapter thirty six

"When your heart stops."

The next morning, Athena was downstairs in the parlor with Stefan and Elena as they all listened to Elijah "tonight is the full moon. We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah shared "Elena said that the sun and moon curse is fake? That it's actually a curse placed on Klaus." Stefan shared "Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it..he'll be a true hybrid." Elijah shared "an abomination, you mean?" Athena asked him.

As Stefan, Elena and Elijah looked to her "exactly. So why are letting him break the curse?" Damon asked as he walked in "we can kill him today. With Bonnie." he shared "Damon.." Stefan told him as he looked to him "no. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." Elena shared as she looked to him "I'll write her a great eulogy." Damon shared "it's not an option, Damon." Elena told him, as Damon looked to Athena "you? You know I'm right. You said it yourself, he'll be an abomination, whether you live or die he'll be reeking havoc on you for the rest of your life because he'll be reeking havoc on everyone else for the rest of their lives. You'll never have piece!" he voiced.

As Stefan took a deep breath and looked to Elijah "alright, how do we break this curse?" he asked "well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." Elijah shared "the moon stone." Stefan stated "a witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire will sacrifice one of each." Elijah shared "and where do we fit into it?" Elena asked "the final parts of the ritual." Elijah shared, as he turned around, grabbing a box off the shelf as he walked back over to them.

"Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelganger..to the point of your death." Elijah shared and as he did, he noticed everyone except for Athena get physically uncomfortable "believe me, what happens to the rest of you is a whole lot better then what's gonna happen to Athena." he shared, and when he did everyone looked at him with furrowed brows "you all keep saying that, but nobody ever exactly elaborates on that!" Damon voiced "the slayers..they don't get a choice on how they die, they're born and raised to fight until they die. And every slayer throughout the centuries even if they haven't died by Klaus's hands they've all died violently. In the worst ways imaginable. Whether it be humans or supernatural creatures it never ends well. And last night when you told me I don't deserve an apology you were right, because Klaus may have never told me how the slayer dies in the ritual but I was.." Elijah shared, taking a deep breath.

"I was the one back when Katerina chose to run that ended up holding my brother back while he was forced to watch his own daughter, who at the time unlike you hadn't been born from him, but a father knows his own daughter. Especially when they have to be held back by their own brother while the other who he despises with an ever growing hatred through the years, brutally murder her in front of him." he shared, shaking his head "cause when Klaus was done, he didn't finish her off, he just left her there to bleed out and die. Where I had let him go and he didn't fight me for what happened, he just went to his daughter and held her in his arms, wanting to take her but she..she screamed and still till this day I can hear those screams playing in my head and how my brother begged me to help him, but I couldn't do anything." he shared.

Looking to Athena "that's why that night when you did what you did, I didn't hesitate to want to save you because it reminded me of that moment all over again." he shared "yeah, yet now you're gonna do the same thing and the people you're gonna be holding back is me and Stefan!" Damon voiced, as Athena took a deep breath "you..you said you could save Elena?" she asked him, diverting the attention away from her, as Damon and Stefan looked to her with furrowed brows.
