Chapter ninety four

"Athena's lullaby."

The sound of beeping could be heard, as Athena opened her eyes, she was looking up at the ceiling and as she did, her mother brought her hand through her hair "sweetheart?" her mom asked her, as Athena furrowed her brows "what happened?" she asked her "you got in an accident. Caroline was driving and another car came speeding down the road and it hit you and sent your car over the bridge." her mom shared, and as she did, Athena remembered how she saw the headlights coming toward's them "look out!" she yelled, but Caroline was to slow to move the wheel, as their car got hit and sent them through the railing and down into the water.

"You've been in and out for hours since you first woke up." her mom shared "how..how..Caroline?" Athena asked her, as the EKG machine began to speed up "Caroline's fine. Your both okay." her mom shared, trying to calm her down "how?" Athena asked her "there was a boy hunting in the woods with his uncle. He heard the crash. Didn't even hesitate to jump in after you both." her mom shared, as Athena furrowed her brows "what's his name?" she asked her "Stefan. Stefan Salvatore." her mom shared, and when she did, Athena began to sit up "I have to talk to him. I have to thank him." she shared, as her mom pushed her back down "in due time. Right now you need to rest." she shared, and when she did, Athena let out a breath.

Where a few days after leaving the hospital and spending time at home, Athena had gone out of the house to get some fresh air, and as she was walking in the town square, and as a man walked past her, she recognized him from the picture in the newspaper of the man who had saved her and her sister, as she stopped and turned to him "Stefan? Stefan Salvatore?" she asked, as Stefan stopped and turned to her "yeah, that's me." he told her, as Athena chuckled "I'm sorry, this must be really strange." she shared, stepping forward and holding out her hand "I'm Athena, you saved me and my sister's lives a couple weeks back." she shared.

As Stefan stepped forward "yes, I'm sorry, hi, how are you?" he asked her, shaking her hand "alive thanks to you." Athena shared, smiling at him, Stefan smiled back at her, the two dropped each other's hands "my sister wanted to thank you by baking you a casserole but our mom said that you told her that you didn't want anything in return. But from the moment I woke up all I wanted to do was thank you but I feel like words cannot even compare to you saving my life so I've been going over and over in my head on what I could do for you.."Athena shared, looking to the right at the grill.

"You don't have to do anything, really. I was just glad that I was there when I was." Stefan shared, as Athena turned looking at him "you can meet me at the grill, Friday night at six?" she asked him, and as she did, Stefan didn't say no "is that a yes?" Athena asked him "yeah." Stefan told her, nodding "okay then." Athena told him, turning around walking off.

Coming back to reality, Athena was now sitting in Caroline's car "you okay?" Caroline asked her, as Athena looked to her with wide eyes and then back to Elena, where what she just experienced felt so real, as the light turned green, Caroline began driving off again.

Having made it to the grill, Caroline, Athena and Elena walked in, as Caroline sighed "well, I guess mom's not here yet. I'm gonna get us some coffees." she shared "sure." Elena told her, walking after her, leaving Athena standing there and as she did, she remembered the dream she had earlier, as she was brought into another one.

Having put on a nice dress, Athena had been waiting and waiting at the grill but Stefan never showed, as she stood up and walked to where she new he lived, she found him in the garage working on his old school car, Stefan looked up at her "I decided not to come." he told her "I realized." Athena told him "I didn't know how to get a hold of you." Stefan told her "well, I was at the grill, a few of my friends work there they would've gladly delivered the message." Athena shared, as Stefan went back to working on the car.
