MARIE
I knocked on the door and waited for someone to open it. The door was opened by Vincent who looked tired and was holding Marlene in his arms. "Hello, Vincent," I greeted him. "Hello, Marlene." "Hello, Marie," Vincent greeted me back in a groggy tone. "I hope you slept well." "I did," I said to Vincent. "How did you sleep?" All of a sudden, Marlene started to cry. Vincent made a sarcastic smile on his face. "What do you think?" Vincent asked. I looked at Vincent knowing that he didn't sleep well. I turned and looked back at Light plus Ryuzaki for a second before looking back at Vincent. "Can we come in?" I asked. Vincent didn't say anything but nodded before he let us in. We both hopped on the couch as Vincent patted Marlene on the back hoping that she would stop crying. "Now, if you guys don't mind," he began. "I'd better put this little one to bed." I watched as Vincent took Marlene upstairs before turning my attention back to the TV. I turned it on and saw a talk show on.
"Today, we want to talk about the show that's been getting a lot of attention in Japan and now it's getting a lot of attention in America too," the lady said. "For those of you who are unaware, it's The Murder Notebook. It's finally going to be airing in America this April. And for those of you who wanna see what it looks like in the new English dub." "Turn the TV off," I heard Light say. I turned the TV off without protesting against Light. "What's The Murder Notebook?" I heard Ryuzaki ask. "It's the new show they made last year that's coming to The WB in two weeks from now," I answered. "It follows the events of the Kira investigation." "Oh, a fictional show based on real-life events, eh?" I heard Ryuzaki ask. I turned and looked at Ryuzaki before I nodded. "Exactly," I answered. "Cool," Ryuzaki said. "I don't know if I wanna watch it yet." "I'm sure it doesn't have English subtitles yet," Light said out loud. "It's alright," Ryuzaki said out loud. "We all understand Japanese here." I heard the sound of someone walking down the stairs. "Alright, today is..." I heard Ryuk say. I turned to look at him. He had his eyes locked onto Light as if he was going to punch him. "You," Ryuk let out. "What are you doing here?"
Ryuzaki and I watched as Light got up. "What do you think?" Light asked. "I'm here with my human." Ryuk scoffed. "Took you long enough," we heard him mumble under his breath. "What did you just say?!" Light asked. "Do you remember what happened last time we fought, Light?" Ryuk asked. "We had a lot to talk about." "I remember it fair and square!" Light snapped. "You don't need to remind me!" "Remind you of what?" Ryuzaki asked. "Light, what is he talking about?" I asked. All of a sudden, Ryuk waved his hand and a gust of wind blew us to the kitchen. Ryuzaki and I exclaimed as we flew into the kitchen. We watched as Ryuk brought both of his hands up.
"Murus tenebrarum et vitrum," Ryuk chanted.
Suddenly, a wall of darkness and glass blocked our way from getting into the living room. "No!" I cried out as I ran to the edge of the kitchen. I stopped right there because the wall of darkness and glass blocked me from getting to Light. I banged my fist on the wall. "Ryuk, please let us out!" I cried out. I heard Ryuzaki run up to the wall and place his hands on it.
MEANWHILE...
LIGHT
I watched as Ryuk wiped his hands off. "Ah," he let out. "Now we have some privacy from your little witch and your phantom friend." I looked at Ryuk the way Sarah looked at Jareth during their last confrontation in Labyrinth. "What is this all about, Ryuk?" I asked. "Don't ask me that, Light!" Ryuk answered. "You know damn well what this is all about! You...lying to people. Tricking them, getting them to do their dirty work when you know it's not right." Ryuk paused for a few seconds. "Why do you continue to do this?" he asked. I hesitated for a moment. "Th-th-things have changed," I answered. "I don't wanna kill Marie anymore." "Then why do you continue to lie to her and Ryuzaki?" Ryuk asked. "If you had any heart you would,..." "I don't have a choice!" I interrupted. "I can't go back and tell Marie about my girlfriend! I can't tell Ryuzaki what I did to him either! What good will that do? I'd be better for them to continue living a lie."
